Job Description
Job Overview We are seeking a motivated and responsible Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Driver to join our dynamic transportation team. In this vital role, you will operate various types of vehicles to transport passengers safely and efficiently, ensuring compliance with all traffic laws and safety regulations. Your energetic approach and commitment to safety will help us deliver exceptional service to our community, whether transporting students, seniors, or individuals requiring specialized assistance. Duties Safely operate buses, transit vehicles, or specialized transportation vans in accordance with state and local laws, including commercial driving regulations. Transport passengers such as students, seniors, or individuals with mobility challenges, providing wheelchair assistance and ensuring passenger comfort throughout the journey. Follow all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations while maintaining a quick response to traffic changes and emergency situations. Assist passengers with boarding and disembarking, including providing child care support or senior care as needed; ensure passenger safety at all times. Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles to verify proper functioning of brakes, lights, signals, and emergency equipment; report any maintenance issues promptly. Implement behavior management techniques when necessary to maintain a safe and respectful environment onboard; communicate effectively with passengers in multiple languages if applicable. Respond swiftly to emergency stop procedures, first aid situations (including CPR), and emergency response protocols for transportation incidents. Qualifications Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger transport; experience operating school buses or transit buses is highly preferred. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and school policy guidelines related to passenger transportation. Experience working with children or seniors; ability to handle behavior management and childcare responsibilities professionally. Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling equipment; familiarity with wheelchair assistance protocols is desirable. Demonstrated understanding of emergency response procedures for transportation incidents including CPR and first aid certification preferred. Proven defensive driving skills; quick response capability to traffic changes; knowledge of student discipline policies if applicable. Excellent customer service orientation with the ability to maintain professionalism under pressure while ensuring passenger safety and comfort.
