Job Description
J.T. Thorpe & Son, Inc. (JT THORPE) is the oldest and largest refractory contractor in the United States. We are engineers and contractors of refractory, fireproofing, sand blasting, painting, acid proofing and coatings services. We are currently seeking a site Field Safety Specialist for assignment to construction projects across the country; we are hiring for multiple positions. The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining a first-class safety program that reflects the Company's uncompromising commitment to safe work practices and for insuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to HSE standards and guidelines, management systems and procedures, and the ability to communicate to all levels of employees in the organization as part of our commitment to quality and employee health.
Essential Job Duties:
- Performs job safety audits and observations; documenting results, communicating improvement areas with onsite personnel, and reporting findings to management
- Interface with management and labor representatives to resolve any hazardous working conditions and unsafe activities observed or reported from site inspections and audits
- Conducts training to craft labor, participate in training meetings, and assists HSE education for project managers
- Review and audit compliance of onsite training records for compliance with HSE policies and procedures
- Assist in mentoring and training HSE technicians to develop their knowledge base and performance in regard to HSE policy, leadership skills, and customer interactions
- Participate in safety committees, weekly safety meetings, and scheduled reviews
- Investigates incidents using root cause techniques and assists regions in closing out corrective actions
- Review and continually update job safety analysis/hazard analysis documents
- Champions JT Thorpe's behavior and hazard observations "FLASH" program by gauging participation on site, reviewing submissions, resolving observed hazards Your Background
- Bachelor / associate degree in health, safety, environmental science, or related field preferred. HSE experience in lieu of a degree will be considered dependent on roles and responsibilities.
- Computer skills-individual will need to have proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, along with general computer software use
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background screen, motor vehicle record check, and drug screening
- Ability to conduct training for personnel to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
- Experience working in an industrial construction / maintenance environment as an HSE professional (2-3 years).
