ImmediatelyAbout the JobThe client is seeking an experienced Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) for a NAVFAC construction project at Naval Station Great Lakes. The work involves the repair and replacement of water treatment plant clearwells, including cast-in-place concrete, process piping, excavation, and confined space work in and around an operating utility facility.
The SSHO will manage the on-site safety and health program under
EM 385-1-1
(2024) and work directly with the project team and the Government's representatives.
What You'll DoDevelop, implement, and keep current the Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) under
EM 385-1-1
(2024).Conduct and document daily site inspections and track deficiencies to closure.
Lead site safety orientations, toolbox talks, and preparatory and pre-work safety meetings.
Oversee high-hazard work, including confined space entry, excavation, fall protection, formwork and concrete placement, and crane/rigging operations.
Verify subcontractor compliance, training records, and Competent Person designations.
Report and investigate incidents and near misses; prepare monthly exposure reports and
OSHA 300/300A
records.
Serve as the contractor's safety point of contact with the NAVFAC COR, with authority to stop work.
Required QualificationsQualifies as a Level 2 SSHO or higher under
EM 385-1-1
(2024).OSHA 30-Hour Construction (or General Industry) card.24 hours of documented formal safety and health training within the last 5 years, in addition to OSHA 30.3+ years of construction safety experience within the last 10 years on projects of similar type, size, and complexity (2+ years with a qualifying safety degree or accredited certification).Proven experience writing and maintaining APPs and AHAs.
Current First Aid/CPR/AED.Able to pass a background check for military base access (REAL ID or passport required).Available full time on site whenever work is being performed.
Preferred QualificationsQualifies as a Level 1 SSHO, with 5+ years of similar-project safety experience within the last 10 years.
BCSP certification (CHST, CSP, ASP, or OHST).40-hour
EM 385-1-1
course (2024 edition).Prior NAVFAC or USACE project experience, including ENG Form 6282 designation.
Competent Person training in confined space, excavation/trenching, fall protection, and scaffolding.
Experience on water or wastewater treatment projects, especially permit-required confined space work in an operating facility.
