Occupational Health Technician

Duties

• Provide comprehensive screening for adult workers (ages 18-80), including obtaining and reviewing medical and occupational histories.
• Review all pertinent data to determine required ancillary tests and appropriate program placement.
• Evaluate patients and determines need for referral to an Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) or physician.
• Perform vision testing, vital signs, spirometry, audiometry, and EKGs; verifies completeness and accuracy of results.
• Refer abnormal vital signs, vision results, EKGs, audiometry, and spirometry findings to OHN or provider per clinic SOP.
• Verify and orders indicated laboratory studies, x rays, immunizations, and other ancillary tests.
• Maintain accurate documentation in medical records and required forms (CDL, OF 178, SF 600) in both hard copy and electronic formats, following all directives.
• Ensure safe and effective operation of medical equipment and adnce to emergency procedures, hazardous material handling, and physical security standards.
• Comply with infection control guidelines, including universal precautions.
• Coordinate scheduling for pre placement and routine physical examinations.
• Maintain accurate logs and tracking/tickler systems.
• Order and receives supplies and equipment.
• Provide front desk reception and support.
• Answer telephones and assists with patient inquiries.
  Requirements Conditions of employment
• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation Certification. Must hear well enough to auscultate a blood pressure. Certified Hearing Conservationist. Tri-Service Conservation and Readiness Course.
• All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
• This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
• This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination tafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• One year probationary period may be required.
• This position is subject to TDY or business travel requirements to various locations.

This may require travel via privately owned vehicles, commercial transport platforms, and/or military aircraft, ships, and vehicles.

Qualifications Who May :

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience:

One year of specialized experience which includes provide comprehensive screening such as vision, vital signs, spirometry, audiometry, and electrocardiograms, maintain accurate documentation in medical records evaluate patients need for referral and coordinate scheduling. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

OR Education:

A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Health Technician, Health care Technician.

OR Combination of Education and Experience:

A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9.
