You're helping them build routines, strategies, confidence, and functional abilities they can use when no clinician is in the room. That may mean practicing dressing until a new technique feels natural, teaching energy-conservation strategies a patient can use throughout the day, reinforcing safe use of adaptive equipment, or helping a caregiver understand how to support independence instead of automatically stepping in. Success is when the patient needs you a little less because of what you've taught them. It can change how much assistance they need throughout their entire day. A better dressing technique may mean a spouse no longer needs to help every morning. Improved coordination may allow someone to prepare their own meals again. The right equipment may make bathing safer. A simplified routine may help a patient with cognitive changes complete more tasks independently. Those changes matter to the patient, but they also matter to the family members and caregivers supporting them every day. As a COTA, you'll help reinforce the skills and strategies that make greater independence possible. What You'll Be Doing Implement individualized treatment plans developed by supervising Occupational Therapists Provide skilled one-on-one Occupational Therapy treatment in patient homes Address bathing, dressing, grooming, meal preparation, and other ADLs Provide fine motor, coordination, strengthening, cognitive, and functional activities Teach and reinforce adaptive and compensatory strategies Educate patients and caregivers on safety and functional techniques Reinforce appropriate use of adaptive equipment Monitor patient response and communicate progress to the supervising OTR/L Collaborate with PTs, PTAs, nurses, and other interdisciplinary clinicians Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation Bring the COTA Skills You Already Have We're interested in COTAs with experience in Skilled Nursing, Inpatient Rehabilitation, Transitional Care, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Long-Term Care, Outpatient Therapy, and Home Health. Previous home health experience is valuable, but it's not the only background that can translate successfully. We're looking for someone who understands that good therapy isn't just completing today's treatment plan. It's teaching patients and caregivers how to continue succeeding between visits. What We're Looking For Active Minnesota Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant license Valid driver's license and insured, reliable transportation Strong hands-on treatment skills Excellent patient and caregiver education skills Ability to independently manage a field-based schedule Strong organization and documentation skills Comfortable traveling within an assigned Southwestern Minnesota territory Home health experience preferred Experience with geriatric or medically complex patients welcomed Measure Your Success by What Happens When You're Gone The goal of Occupational Therapy isn't to make a patient great at therapy.
