This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables. Job Summary As an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist you are a subject matter expert in Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering with primary responsibility for technical and operational implementation of environmental program at Kairos Power. You will be part of a team of EHS experts that collaborate in a dynamic setting promoting a culture of safety, sustainability and environmental responsibility. You will be responsible for developing and implementing environmental programs, assisting with regulatory compliance and fostering a safe and environmentally conscious work environment. The candidate must be open to learning and supporting all aspects of Kairos Power's EHS program. Responsibilities Develop, implement and maintain Kairos Power environmental programs. Partner with other EHS professionals to collaborate with cross-functional teams, management and external agencies to ensure alignment with environmental goals. Directly engage employees by walking the floor in an effort to understand workflow, operational processes and potential EHS concerns. Engage with local regulators to ensure compliance with environmental requirements and permits. Develops, reviews and conducts EHS-related training. Stay current with all environmental regulations, inspections and standards, and ensure the organization's adherence to all applicable laws. Prepare and submit regulatory reports, permits and documentation as required. Conduct internal and external audits and inspections to monitor compliance and identify areas for improvement. Manage hazardous materials and waste activities, including waste disposal, recycling and handling in accordance with applicable requirements. Partner and manage relationships with vendors to assist with the responsible disposal of waste. Assist in Investigation of all incidents and accidents, determining root causes and implementing corrective and preventive measures. Support all other functions under EHS and be a backup for other team members. Be a first responder and part of Emergency Response Team. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or a related field. 3+ years of experience in an environmental, health and safety program. Demonstrated experience preparing clear, accurate and complete EHS documentation, including incident reports, incident action plans and after-action reports. Experience supporting the development of EHS training content and coordinating training activities with internal departments. Demonstrated experience collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams to support a strong safety culture. Professional certification relevant to environmental or EHS responsibilities is a plus but not required. Experience supporting environmental compliance activities in a manufacturing, research and development, laboratory, or similarly regulated operating environment is a plus but not required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of environmental program implementation, regulatory reporting, recordkeeping, and documentation requirements. Knowledge of hazardous materials and waste-management requirements and practices. Ability to develop, implement and maintain environmental programs and procedures. Ability to interpret environmental requirements and apply them to operational activities. Ability to prepare accurate regulatory reports, permits, records, and other environmental compliance documentation. Ability to conduct or support environmental audits, inspections, data collection, and compliance assessments. Ability to support incident investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective and preventive actions. Ability to support the development and delivery of EHS training. Ability to build collaborative working relationships across EHS, technical, operational, research, and management functions. Ability to communicate environmental and EHS information clearly through written documentation, training and employee engagement. Ability to engage employees directly to understand work processes and identify environmental or EHS concerns. Understands business objectives and how EHS fits into the organization. Ability to respond to urgent/emergent calls, questions or requests. Demonstrates ability to maintain accurate records and assist with data collection/investigations. Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, codes and standards. Ability to work in an agile R D environment. Excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in an environment with inside ambient temperatures reaching 100+ degrees. Ability to work within a manufacturing setting and tolerate oil, grease, dust, and occasional fumes. Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge. Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges and issues. Physical Demands Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, scissor lifts, articulated boom lifts, etc.. Setting up and transferring temporary structures (e.g. scaffolding, ladders). Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces. Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods. Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another. Adjusting, moving, transporting, installing, positioning, or removing objects up to 35 pounds in all directions. Environmental Conditions General office environment. Low temperatures. Elevated heights. Safety and PPE Manipulating, cleaning and disposal of hazardous materials. Reporting issues with equipment or unsafe conditions. Wearing proper PPE, to include face mask, face shields, gloves, safety shoes, etc.. Handling of Beryllium (Be). Travel Some travel may be required, up to 10% Certification Professional certification relevant to environmental or EHS responsibilities is a plus but not required. Additional Requirements Seldom requires working weekends. Occasionally requires schedule flexibility. Seldom requires non-standard work-week hours. Seldom requires extended hours to support launch and critical project timelines.
