The position will examine environment and safety trends and investigate to assign cause and provide corrective action suggestions. The position is also responsible to assist in authoring safety-related SOPs and SOP revisions, as well as training programs. Acts as liaison with community emergency response agencies.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Investigates property damage accidents, prepares required reports, and communicates information to appropriate locations. Investigates employee injury accidents, prepares written reports, communicates information to appropriate locations, and provides follow-up to ensure successful conclusion to incident. Reviews accident and incident documentation to ensure all required records and reports are complete and accurate; ensures corrective action is implemented. Leads and collaborates with team in investigating all safety incidents to determine cause, implements corrective actions, and reports incidents, as required. Conducts routine documented inspections of all work sites and equipment to ensure compliance with company safety policies and provides on-site hazards assessment with coordinated corrective action if necessary. Assists in and with developing and conducting safety orientation and training programs. Provides case management for injured employees. Follows up on any injured employees and monitor status. Communicates their status to management and external entities as required. Assists with all filing and management of safety documentation and safety training records, to include OSHA annual reporting, NYS for Legionella testing, and others required. Assists with the issuance of work permits. Educates and trains employees on health and safety related issues. Oversee safety on project sites. Manages hazardous waste generation and removal program for facility. Controls hazardous working conditions and unsafe activities through safety management and collaboration. Works closely with various internal teams and external entities to ensure the implementation of safety policies. Ensures required equipment training, to include LOTO training is conducted and documented. Ensures other critical training is provided, to include Respiratory Protection, Formaldehyde Awareness, Hazardous Communication, and others as needed. Clarifies safety rules and provides technical expertise and solutions to safety challenges onsite. Assists in correcting any issues. Communicates and documents on safety expectations to employees. Attends and actively engages in appropriate site meetings to promote safety. Ensures the entire workplace is compliant with OSHA, state, and other company related rules/guidelines. Conducts routine safety audits, to include operator evaluations as needed to ensure safe equipment operation. Manages various other environmental and safety programs, to include employee exposure monitoring, medical surveillance for respirator and/or formaldehyde users, and DOT compliance for truck drivers, as required. Provides information, signs, posters, PPE, barriers, etc. to projects. Assists in providing safety engineering support to the Company activities. Assists in preparing the Company for participation in and oversight of on-site regulatory, customer and third-party audits. Assists in performing duties related to plant maintenance to assist existing production and maintenance staff. Assists in troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and repair of production and/or facilities equipment. Assists in calibration activities. Assists in department inventories. Stays current with regulatory guidance. Informs leadership team and internal groups of changes and Company impact. Promotes a safe and harmonious work environment. Maintains compliance with SOPs, GMPs and all company policies. Other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements:
A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution preferred. Minimum of 1 year of Safety, Environmental or equivalent experience
OSHA 511
preferred. Understanding of
DOT & DEC
regulations Experience in developing and presenting effective safety training Exposure to environmental compliance topics (e.g., waste handling, spill response) preferred. Understanding of basic safety principles and OHSA regulations. Knowledge of federal, state & local occupational health & safety regulations. Knowledge of general computer functions such as Microsoft Office programs, spreadsheets, etc. Skill in handling several projects or tasks at the same time, or within a given time frame. The ability to recognize a safety issue or potential safety issue. Skill to use time management techniques in personal daily tasks and that of others. Skill in quality and compliance vigilance. Ability to inspect the work of others and coach performance in line with company standard operating procedures. Ability to apply critical thinking. Comfortable conducting safety training for team members on all shifts to support 24-hour operations. Advanced interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to develop process control systems, including the ability to write policies and work instructions. Experience in developing and presenting effective safety training. Seeing:
Must be able to read reports and use the computer 75-100% of the time.
Hearing:
Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with coworkers 75-100% of the time.
Standing/Walking/Mobility:
Must be able to stand to open files and operate office equipment; mobility between departments and attend meetings of coworkers and management 75-100% of time.
Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling:
Must be able to climb, stoop, or kneel to perform routine tasks within the scope of job 50-74% of time. Lifting up to 40 lbs./ Pulling/Pushing within the scope of job 25-49% of the time.
Touching/Grasping/Feeling:
Must be able to write, type, and use office equipment; along with handling material and equipment 75-100% of the time.
