A Security Officer provides security for property at hospitals, hotels, warehouses or office buildings. Monitors entrances and patrols buildings, watches for intruders or vandals; reports building maintenance problems; deals with customers or visitors that create a disturbance in the building.
Unarmed Security Guard The Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System (GCVHCS) requires an Unarmed Security Guard I from Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 4:30 pm , excluding weekends and federal holidays, for the Panama City VA Mental Health Clinic and the Panama City Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) located in Panama City, Florida . The Unarmed Security Guard I will be responsible for safeguarding VA-owned and/or leased property, protecting patients, staff, and visitors, monitoring building access and security/fire systems, and responding to emergencies and security incidents in accordance with VA policy and the Statement of Work.
Responsibilities/Duties:
Security Guards will be assigned to entrances of the building to monitor pedestrian traffic and to patrol the interior and exterior of the facilities.
The primary functions are:
To provide physical security by conducting patrols of listed areas, while being alert for dangerous conditions existing as a result of violations of health and safety codes or violations of Title 18 and 21 of the United States Code (U.S.C.), and VA rules and regulations governing VA grounds and buildings, and reporting dangerous conditions or unlawful activity to responsible authorities. When efforts to prevent crime fail, the Security Guards will notify local authorities. Once the incident is under control, the Security Guards will notify the COR (Police Operations Officer) or designee, and the Chief of VA Police (Biloxi) within 30 minutes of the incident. The Security Guards are required to render courteous assistance to employees, patients, and visitors to safeguard their welfare during emergencies. The officers will assist employees, patients, and visitors with door and vehicle unlocks and/or jump starts with jump boxes. The officers are responsible to exercise leadership, control and direction during fire, storms, earthquakes or other mishaps which threaten lives. Assignments may include but are not limited to the following: Entrance Control Post as directed: Operate and enforce a system of personnel identification. Perform package inspection when directed to do so.
Security and Fire Systems:
Monitor building intrusion detection system and other protection devices or building equipment during the hours of duty.
Building Rules and Regulations:
Observe building occupants and visitors for compliance with posted rules and regulations.
Lost and Found:
Will be deposited in appropriate floor safes until such time Environmental Services takes control of the property
Hazardous Conditions:
Report potentially hazardous conditions and items in need of repair, including inoperative lights, leaky faucets, toilet stoppages, broken or slippery floor surfaces, to the VA's facility manager.
Additional Duties:
Turn off unnecessary lights, close windows, open and secure doors and gates as necessary.
Reports and Records:
Security Guards will be required to document incidents that they witness on VA Form 1393, Uniform Offense Report, and obtain all necessary VA Forms. This will be accomplished utilizing the Veterans Affairs Police Reporting System (VAPS).
Emergencies:
Respond to emergencies and provide appropriate assistance. Notify appropriate law enforcement officials as necessary for assistance. Immediately notify the COR or designee, as appropriate, of action taken. Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
U.S. Citizenship or authorization to work in the United States 21 years of age or older State of Florida Class D Security Guard License High school education or equivalency with two (2) years' experience demonstrating the ability to: Meet and deal with the general public; Maintain poise and self-control under stress; Construct and write clear, concise, accurate and detailed reports. Military Service may be credited toward meeting the above requirements. Speak, read, and write English. They must be capable of reading and understanding printed regulations, detailed written orders, training instructions and materials, and shall be able to compose reports in English, which convey complete information. Demonstrate maturity, have sound judgment, excellent character, a good work ethic, have job-completion skills, and be dependable.<
