Open Date Aug 18, 2026 Description Summary To maintain a standard of safety and security for the campus, routinely patrol campus and parking lots, assist community members, and enforce the rules and regulations of Simpson College. This is a 12-month part-time (generally two to three 8-hour shifts/week, including evening, nights & weekends) position. Essential Job Functions Secure campus buildings and provide regular foot and/or vehicle patrols of the entire campus, including checking doors, windows, life-safety devices, parking lots, etc. (40%)

Respond to calls for service, incidents, & emergencies promptly with a focus on customer service. (35%)

Maintain thorough and accurate duty logs. File incident reports as necessary. (5%)

Maintain communication with physical plant/custodial staff, housing staff, and co-workers. (5%)

Monitor surveillance cameras, alarms, and access points to buildings & campus. (5%)

Attending periodic training and meetings. (10%)

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Knowledge of first aid and CPR (Simpson can provide training at no cost to you)

Comfortable handling confidential information

Experience using computer programs such as Word, Outlook, Teams, and Excel

Previous work in security

Interpersonal/communication skills: Position requires above-ordinary courtesy and tact to communicate effectively with diverse individuals in routine, high stress,and emergency situations. Also requires abilities to de-fuse emotionally charged situations and to write clearly

Physical fitness: The ability to perform daily activities with endurance and strength, such as standing or walking around buildings, and lifting heavy items

Problem-solving:

The ability to find quick solutions to issues, react appropriately in stressful situations, and pay attention to details on rounds and when investigating

Teamwork:

The ability to work well in a team or alone and to be dependable

Knowledge:

Knowledge of standard security & safety protocols, legal guidelines, & relevant computer applications. Ability to type routine correspondence, forms, and use computer files/programs

Physical Requirements:

Ability to walk long distances for long periods of time; ability to move swiftly when needed. Some lifting is required.
