Security Guard/Guest Services Altius Dispensary - 2.0 Carol Stream, IL Job Details Full-time $18 an hour 20 hours ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Vision insurance Opportunities for advancement Life insurance Paid sick time Qualifications Customer communication High school diploma or GED Full Job Description Position Summary We are seeking a professional, alert, and customer-service-focused Cannabis Security Guard / Guest Services Associate to help maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for our customers and staff. This position combines security responsibilities with front-door guest services, including ID verification, customer check-in, and support for curbside pickup orders. The ideal candidate is dependable, observant, professional, and comfortable interacting with customers while enforcing company policies and applicable cannabis regulations. 1. Key Responsibilities 1.1 Security & Safety Monitor the facility, entrances, exits, parking areas, and surrounding areas for safety and security concerns. Maintain a visible security presence and help prevent theft, unauthorized access, and other security incidents. Respond professionally to disturbances, emergencies, and safety concerns. Follow all company security procedures and applicable laws and regulations. Document and report incidents, suspicious activity, and policy violations to management. Maintain confidentiality regarding customers, employees, business operations, and security procedures. 1.2 ID Verification & Guest Check-In Verify customer identification and eligibility before allowing entry, in accordance with applicable laws and company policies. Ensure IDs are valid, authentic, and meet required age and identification standards. Greet customers in a professional and welcoming manner. Check guests in using the company's designated system or process. Answer basic customer questions and direct customers to the appropriate staff member when needed. Maintain an organized and professional reception/check-in area. 1.3 Curbside Pickup Support Assist with the curbside pickup process and communicate with customers when they arrive. Verify customer identification and order information as required. Coordinate with dispensary staff to ensure orders are brought to the designated pickup area. Help maintain a safe and orderly curbside pickup area. Follow all company procedures regarding customer verification, order handoff, and documentation. Provide friendly and professional customer service throughout the pickup experience. 2. Qualifications Must meet all applicable legal requirements to work in a cannabis facility/security position. Previous security, loss prevention, hospitality, retail, cannabis, or customer-service experience preferred. Strong observation and communication skills. Professional appearance and demeanor. Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Comfortable using basic technology, check-in systems, and communication devices. Ability to follow detailed procedures and company policies. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. All responsibilities must be performed in accordance with applicable state and local cannabis laws, regulations, licensing requirements, and company policies. This position is expected to maintain a high standard of professionalism, safety, and customer service at all times. 3. Required Certifications & Regulatory Requirements The following requirements apply to this position based on the duties assigned and all applicable Illinois laws, IDFPR rules, and the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act. Final credential requirements will be determined based on the employee's specific duties and access privileges. 3.1 Required Security Credential Employees must meet all applicable IDFPR requirements for registration as a security employee, including required fingerprint-based background screening. Employees must complete the applicable Illinois-mandated security training, including the required basic training applicable to their security position. 3.2 Cannabis-agent requirements include: Successful completion of the IDFPR agent application process. Required fingerprint/background-check process. Maintaining a valid dispensing organization agent identification card. Completing required cannabis training within the applicable time period. Completing required annual training and maintaining documentation of that training. IDFPR currently requires agents involved in the handling of cannabis to complete Responsible Vendor Program training from an IDFPR-approved Responsible Vendor within 90 days of beginning employment. Adult-use agents are also required to receive 8 hours of annual training from the dispensing organization. 3.3 ID Verification & Customer Check-In Training Acceptable forms of government-issued identification. How to properly examine and verify identification. Use of the dispensary's electronic ID scanner/reader. Recognizing common identification-verification mistakes. Age-verification requirements. Procedures for handling expired, altered, fraudulent, or questionable identification. Privacy requirements regarding information obtained from customer identification. Procedures for refusing entry or service when identification requirements are not met. The Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act requires dispensaries to use an electronic reader or scanning device, when applicable, to determine a purchaser's age and the validity of government-issued identification. The Act also requires valid identification to be unexpired and contain a photograph and date of birth. 3.4 Curbside / Pickup Compliance The employee may assist with curbside and pickup operations, including customer check-in, identification verification, communication with dispensary staff, and maintaining a safe pickup area. Illinois law now expressly permits dispensing organizations to offer pickup or drive-through locations for cannabis and cannabis products. 3.5 The employee must follow all company procedures regarding: Customer identification and age verification. Order verification. Secure transfer of orders to customers. Customer privacy. Security of cannabis and currency. Documentation and incident reporting. Curbside safety and traffic control. Cannabis Compliance Training Employees performing cannabis-related duties must receive training appropriate to their position covering applicable Illinois cannabis laws and dispensary procedures.
Training topics may include:
Illinois cannabis laws and regulations. Sales and access restrictions involving minors. Acceptable identification and ID verification. Cannabis storage and security. Security and surveillance requirements. Health and safety requirements. Privacy requirements. Inventory tracking requirements, where applicable to the employee's duties. Cannabis waste procedures, where applicable. Recognizing signs of impairment and responding appropriately. Responsible cannabis use. DUI/driving-under-the-influence laws. Dispensary emergency and security procedures. IDFPR's Responsible Vendor training requirements specifically identify these types of subjects, including identification verification, security and surveillance, health and safety, privacy, and relevant Illinois laws and rules. 3.6 The company will be responsible for ensuring that each employee has all licenses, registrations, training, and credentials required for the specific duties they perform. Preferred Additional Certifications The following are preferred and/or may be required by company policy: CPR/First Aid certification. AED certification. Conflict de-escalation training. Emergency response training. Customer-service training. Experience with electronic ID scanners and POS/check-in systems. Previous cannabis dispensary or regulated-retail experience. All employees must remain compliant with current Illinois law, IDFPR requirements, local ordinances, and company policies.
