  • The
  • Sergeant
  • is responsible for the safety and security of all patients, employees, contractors, trainees, vendors, and visitors utilizing Institute facilities.

The incumbent will complete regular security rounds; check for and verify proper identification; signin/out individuals; provide escort services; control building ingress and egress; write reports; ensure adherence and compliance of Institute policies; and promptly respond to disturbances while on duty. This position operates under the direct supervision of the Lieutenant (Shift Commander), and in the absence of the Lieutenant the incumbent will be called upon to manage the day-to-day responsibility and oversight of their assigned shift as necessary.

  • Responsibilities
  • 1.
  • Functions as the direct supervisor of security officers, and ensures that all post orders are followed, that established rounds are completed, and that required reports are filed. Notifies security management and other authorities in emergency situations.
  • 2.
  • Prepares, files, and submits various reports as required. Investigates Institute security incidents, prepare appropriate reports, ensures that proper Institute personnel and/or external groups are notified, when necessary (e.g., human resources or clinical staff), and directs security officers under their supervision.

  • Inspects posts as scheduled and meets with subordinates to outline tasks and responsibilities.

  • Seeks advice from and meets with security management or designated representatives as needed to provide assurance that all security requirements and responsibilities are met and quality customer service is provided. Resolves minor complaints or conflicts involving members of the Kennedy Krieger community.

  • Supervises special events and assigned security personnel.
  • 6.
  • Carries out supervisory duties as assigned in accordance with applicable company policies/procedures and in compliance with state and federal laws, which can include, but may not be limited to, orienting and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; coaching and mentoring; appraising performance; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Performs duties of Security Officer I and Security Officer II as needed. This includes monitoring CCTV and alarm systems and responding to alerts.

  • Maintains composure in dealing with subordinates, staff, and the public under conditions of urgency and in high-pressure situations.
  • Qualifications
  • + Must possess or obtain a Maryland Security Guard Certification within 30 days of employment pursuant to Maryland Senate Bill 760. + May require Class "C" Maryland driver's license with no more than two points depending on assigned location. + Must achieve, possess, and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification according to the timeline established by the department.
  • EDUCATION
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • EXPERIENCE
  • + Minimum two (2) years of related security experience is required. + Previous supervisory security experience preferred. + Report writing experience required. + Previous law enforcement work experience, military training, or successful completion of related training from an accredited college program preferred.
