JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title:

Safety Associate

Purpose of Position:

Under general supervision, this role performs security services with a focus on safety, professionalism and compassion. The role assists the school administrative team in implementing and managing plans designed to effectively address security and school safety needs.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent; 2 + years experience in campus security, public safety or similar field that includes experience with emergency response and/or preparedness. Preferred - Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice Reports to: Principal Mooresville High School or designee

Major Responsibilities:
  • Direct traffic during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal to support the safe movement of students, staff, buses, and vehicles.
  • Monitor student parking lots throughout the school day and report safety or security concerns to administration.
  • Assist with class-change supervision, including monitoring hallways, entrances, and high-traffic areas.
  • Provide crosswalk duty and assist students with safely navigating campus.
  • Assist with and monitor weapon detection operations during arrival and throughout the school day.
  • Walk hallways and common areas regularly to provide a visible safety presence and address concerns as they arise.
  • Monitor and respond appropriately to vape detector alerts, following school procedures and notifying administration when needed.
  • Assist with monitoring and reviewing school security cameras as directed by administration.
  • Support the administration with student supervision and campus security during special events, activities, and emergency situations.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and orderly campus, including addressing minor maintenance concerns when needed and reporting larger maintenance or safety issues to appropriate staff.
  • Participate in regular meetings with the school administrative team to review safety concerns, trends, upcoming events, and areas requiring additional attention.
  • Assist with implementing and monitoring school safety procedures and emergency protocols. Maintain a professional, positive, and approachable presence when interacting with students, staff, families, and visitors.
  • Communicate safety concerns, incidents, and unusual activity promptly to the appropriate administrator.
  • Assist with other safety, supervision, and campus-related responsibilities as assigned by the administration. Background Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Considerable knowledge of state and local policies and procedures regarding the administration of security/school safety programs. Considerable knowledge of applicable laws and regulations. Considerable knowledge of the current literature, trends, methods, and developments in the areas of security and school safety. Considerable knowledge of the ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional organizations and/or federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.

General knowledge of the principles of supervision, organization, and administration.

Ability to effectively express ideas orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of audiences as necessitated by work assignments.

Possess knowledge of school behavior guidelines.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Knowledge of appropriate responses for emergency situations.

Understands the growth and development of assigned students.

Physical Requirements:

Must sit, stand, walk, and drive throughout the workday and must lift up to 35 lbs. occasionally.

Must be able to push/pull with 35 lbs. of force.

Have 20/20 vision in both eyes or correctable to 20/20 with corrective lenses in both eyes.

Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

Must be able to handle personal stress and possible physical emergencies. Must be physically able to walk around all areas of the facilities and grounds.

10 month position; Non-Exempt; MGSD Salary Schedule NC 05
