• Under direct supervision of the Building Security Supervisor and the Principal to patrol school buildings to ensure a safe and secure building environment, as well as the personal safety of students, staff, and visitors. Essential Functions
• Provides for the safety and security of students, staff, visitors and School District property in accordance with School District policies to provide an educational climate which is conducive to learning.
• Conducts ongoing security patrols of the building.
• Reports concerns and incidents which may require corrective action to Building Security Supervisor and Principal.
• Assists visitors to the school in receiving proper direction, assists in maintaining log of all visitors, and prevents unauthorized persons from entering the building.

Additional Duties:

• Performs relates duties as required.

• Knowledge of best practices in building security and safety.
• Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with principal, security guards and others.
• Ability to describe orally or in writing security problems as needed.
• Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
• Ability to maintain a professional, calm and authoritative manner when challenged by students. Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
• Works in standard school building environment.
• Occasional work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.
• Physical ability to separate students or others involved in altercations.

Qualifications Profile:

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

• High School Diploma or completion of sufficient education to successfully perform the duties of the position
• Successful experience in security or law enforcement
• Experience working with adolescents preferred and the public school system
• Knowledge of security measures, fire prevention, and crowd control
• Ability to maintain order and to work with groups on matters of security
• Must possess valid NJ Drivers License
