First Lutheran Church | Sioux Falls, SD Part-Time | Evenings & Weekends First Lutheran Church is looking for a dependable, confident, and people-focused individual to join our team as a Building Safety & Security Coordinator .First Lutheran is a busy, active church with ministry programs, meetings, youth activities, community groups, weddings, funerals, special events, and worship happening throughout the week. We want every person who walks through our doors, whether a staff member, child, volunteer, congregation member, or community guest, to feel both welcome and safe .This position provides a consistent safety and security presence during evening and weekend activities and takes responsibility for helping ensure the building is safe, secure, and properly closed at the end of the day. We aren't simply looking for someone to lock the doors. We're looking for someone who is observant, approachable, calm under pressure, and willing to take ownership of the building and the people in it while they're here. What You'll Do Provide a visible, welcoming safety and security presence during evening and weekend activities Monitor building entrances, exits, common areas, and activity throughout the property Conduct regular walkthroughs of the building and exterior areas Help staff, volunteers, members, and guests with safety or building-related needs Monitor exterior doors and ensure appropriate building access Remain aware of scheduled activities and who is using the building Identify potential safety or security concerns and respond appropriately Support staff members when an uncomfortable or unexpected situation arises Respond calmly to disruptive individuals or unusual activity using established procedures Contact church leadership, emergency services, law enforcement, or other appropriate resources when necessary Assist with emergency procedures, evacuations, severe weather response, and medical emergencies as appropriate Help maintain awareness of parking lots, entrances, sidewalks, and exterior areas during evening activities Complete an end-of-day walkthrough and closing checklist Confirm that scheduled groups have departed and appropriate areas of the building are secure Document and communicate incidents, concerns, or unusual activity Report facility concerns to the Facilities Manager Work collaboratively with church leadership and staff as FLC continues strengthening its overall safety and emergency preparedness Who We're Looking For Someone who is: Dependable and trustworthy Calm, confident, and level-headed Observant and aware of their surroundings Friendly and approachable Comfortable taking initiative and making reasonable decisions Able to communicate clearly and respectfully Comfortable interacting with children, families, older adults, staff, volunteers, and community members Able to maintain confidentiality and use discretion Comfortable working independently Able to remain composed during unexpected or potentially stressful situations Willing to take ownership rather than simply wait for direction Committed to creating an environment that feels safe without feeling unwelcoming Experience Previous experience in security, law enforcement, military service, emergency response, facilities, public safety, hospitality, or a related field is helpful, but not required.

We're just as interested in finding someone with excellent judgment, dependability, people skills, and the right temperament for the role. CPR/AED/First Aid certification is a bonus, but not required. Schedule This is a part-time position primarily covering evenings and weekends , with hours based on church activities and building needs.

First Lutheran may hire more than one Building Safety & Security Coordinator to provide consistent coverage while maintaining reasonable and flexible part-time schedules.
