The Opportunity We are hiring one full-time, W-2 Lead Commercial Low-Voltage & Security Systems Technician for commercial projects and service calls across Collin County and the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. This hands-on role combines structured cabling, security-system installation, troubleshooting, and commercial IT field service. You will lead installations, coordinate technicians when assigned, and take ownership of work from site survey and plan review through testing, documentation, and customer handoff. Assignments include new installations, commercial retrofits, equipment upgrades, system cutovers, and smaller service calls involving cameras, access control, intrusion alarms, network equipment, POS hardware, and printers. The role requires regular travel to customer sites. Compensation & Schedule Base pay: $35.00-$40.00 per hour as a full-time W-2 employee, based on relevant field experience, technical ability, licensing, and certifications.

Overtime:

1.5 times the regular rate for hours worked over 40 in a workweek.

Schedule:

Expected 40 hours per week, primarily Monday-Friday. Occasional overtime, early starts, evening cutovers, and weekend assignments may be required based on customer and project needs. After-hours coverage will be coordinated in advance whenever practicable.

Vehicle reimbursement:

Eligible business mileage in a personal vehicle reimbursed at the applicable IRS standard mileage rate, subject to company policy and mileage documentation.

Commission:

5% on qualifying self-generated commercial project add-ons and contract expansions, with calculation and payment terms defined in the written commission plan.

Key Responsibilities Site surveys and field planning: Conduct job walks, verify existing infrastructure, document cable routes and equipment locations, identify material needs, and report scope discrepancies before work proceeds.

Cable certification and troubleshooting:

Test and certify Cat6/Cat6A installations using Fluke DSX or equivalent cable-certification equipment. Select the appropriate test limits and adapters, diagnose failed results, correct installation defects, retest, and deliver electronic certification reports matched to cable labels.

Service documentation:

Follow dispatch instructions, maintain check-in/check-out records, capture equipment details and installation photos, document troubleshooting and test results, and obtain required customer acceptance.

Lead field work:

Review drawings and scope, plan daily tasks, coordinate technicians and other trades, and communicate progress, material needs, and site issues.

Access control and intrusion alarms:

Install, terminate, configure, and troubleshoot readers, controllers, electric strikes, magnetic locks, door contacts, request-to-exit devices, intrusion sensors, panels, and power supplies within the approved scope and applicable licensing requirements.

Cameras and cloud video:

Install, aim, configure, and troubleshoot commercial IP cameras, NVRs, and cloud video platforms. Verify planned views, recording, remote access, and supported analytics and alerts.

Structured cabling:

Pull, support, label, dress, and terminate Cat6/Cat6A, coaxial, and multi-conductor cable in new construction and occupied commercial spaces using appropriate cable ratings and installation methods.

Commercial IT field service:

Install, replace, connect, and troubleshoot wireless access points, switches, POS terminals, receipt and network printers, and related peripherals. Perform equipment swaps, patching, connectivity checks, and onsite smart-hands work under approved instructions from customer IT teams or remote engineers.

Testing and troubleshooting:

Diagnose cabling, power, network, and device faults; verify cable performance, PoE capacity, device connectivity, and system operation.

Project closeout:

Maintain cable labels, test records, installation photos, and marked-up drawings; complete punch lists, provide basic user training, and obtain customer sign-off.

Site safety and professionalism:

Follow jobsite safety procedures, protect customer property, maintain an orderly work area, and flag scope changes before proceeding. Required Qualifications Demonstrated hands-on experience testing and certifying commercial copper cabling with Fluke DSX or equivalent certification equipment, including troubleshooting failures and producing electronic certification reports. Ability to work independently across commercial installations and service calls, follow approved technical procedures, and escalate issues outside the assigned scope. 3+ years of commercial low-voltage, structured cabling, or electronic security installation experience, including independent troubleshooting and field coordination. Ability to lead crews and complete installations with limited supervision. Current Texas DPS individual license covering the assigned alarm and/or electronic access-control work, or eligibility to obtain the applicable license and required company affiliation before performing regulated duties. Ability to read architectural plans, reflected ceiling plans, wiring diagrams, and equipment documentation. Working knowledge of IP addressing, subnetting, DHCP, network switches, patch panels, and PoE power budgets. Basic hand tools and a standard cordless drill kit are required. PGC provides specialty testers, cable-certification equipment, and tall ladders. Personal ownership of a Fluke DSX or equivalent certifier is not required. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and a driving record suitable for the role. Ability to meet applicable background-screening and jobsite requirements. Clear communication with customers, project managers, and other trades. Preferred Qualifications Five or more years of relevant commercial installation and field-service experience. Experience with drive-through communications, vehicle detection loops, or 70V commercial audio is a plus. Current BICSI Installer 2 Copper (INSTC) or BICSI Technician (TECH) credential strongly preferred. Substantial equivalent commercial structured-cabling experience will be considered. OSHA 30-Hour Construction course completion preferred. Candidates without it must be willing to complete company-arranged training within 60 days of hire, or before an assignment that requires it. Experience with Brivo, Avigilon Unity, Avigilon Alta/Openpath, Hirsch, PDK, Honeywell, Rhombus, Hanwha Vision, Axis, or comparable commercial platforms.
