01/23/2026 Position Purpose Under general direction, the School Security Guard is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure campus environment. This includes promoting positive student behavior, deterring unsafe actions, patrolling school grounds, monitoring surveillance systems, intervening in disruptions or emergencies, and assisting staff and students during daily operations. The guard protects school property against vandalism, theft, illegal entry, and fire while fostering a learning environment conducive to academic success.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High School Diploma or GED CPR and First Aid certification (required within one year or employment) CPI certification (required within one year of employment) Successful background investigation

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to record information Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Ability to work effectively with high school students Ability to communicate effectively (verbally) Familiarity with emergency response procedures, crowd control, and school safety protocols Basic knowledge of the Texas Education Code, Texas Penal Code, and Code of Criminal Procedure Knowledge of security measures and safety procedures Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment

Experience:

Previous security, law enforcement, or military experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Campus Monitoring & Safety Patrol school buildings, grounds, parking lots, and surrounding areas including unsupervised zones. Check for unauthorized visitors, safety hazards, and suspicious activity. Monitor and inspect doors, windows, and gates to ensure campus security. Prevent and respond to illegal parking, loitering, and tampering with vehicles. Monitor and respond to fire alarms; extinguish small fires as necessary. Wear and maintain district-approved uniform during duty hours. Student Supervision & Behavioral Support Promote and model responsible behavior and professionalism to students. Intervene in incidents that may lead to injury or disruption. Assist with hallway supervision, ensuring smooth student movement and on-time arrival to class. Supervise student activities during breakfast, lunch, arrival, and dismissal times. Redirect inappropriate behavior and enforce school and district conduct policies. EmergencyResponse & Incident Management Notify administration and emergency personnel of dangerous, unusual, or suspicious situations. Assist police, fire, and emergency responders in handling crises and safety drills. Document and report incidents including discipline violations, vandalism, and safety hazards. Respond calmly and appropriately in emergency situations including child abuse, substance use, or potential suicide indicators. Visitor & Staff Support Assist visitors with directions and identification verification. Intercept and escort unauthorized individuals from the premises. Collaborate with staff to support campus operations. Maintain confidentiality and use discretion when handling sensitive information. Communication & Documentation Maintain accurate logs and reports of daily security activities, incidents, and hazards. Communicate with school administrators, campus SRO's, emergency responders, and community organizations as needed. Provide witness statements or testify in student disciplinary hearings or legal proceedings. Additional Duties Attend required in-service training and workshops. Perform temporary maintenance or safety-related repairs as needed. Assist with crowd control at school events and special functions. Operate safety and security equipment including radios and fire extinguishers. Carry out other duties as assigned within legal and district guidelines.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Continuous walking and standing. Exposure to vehicle exhaust. Works outside and is exposed to extreme temperatures and inclement weather. May be subject to extreme physical acts of others (i.e., restraining students involved in altercations).
