Sherlock Investigations is hiring full-time Surveillance Investigators to conduct covert, field based surveillance throughout Michigan. This is fast paced investigative work where you will be trained to document real world activity, think on your feet, work independently, and produce professional reports that support insurance claims investigations. You do not need to already be a licensed private investigator. You do not need years of surveillance experience. We provide the training, equipment, structure, and support. What you do need is the right mindset. You need to be reliable, observant, patient, sharp, professional, and willing to learn a unique skill set in a serious investigative field. No Experience? We Train the Right People. Sherlock provides a three-week training program designed to prepare new investigators for field surveillance, video documentation, mobile and stationary surveillance, report writing, legal and ethical field conduct, and Sherlock's procedures and standards. If you are reliable, observant, coachable, professional, and willing to learn, this could be the start of a real career in investigations. You do not need to be a licensed Professional Investigator to qualify for this position. All investigative assignments are conducted under Sherlock Investigations' company license. What This Job Is This is a full-time field surveillance position focused on conducting covert surveillance operations throughout Michigan. Surveillance Investigators obtain video documentation, prepare written reports, and support insurance claims investigations through legal, ethical, and professional field work. You may be working from your vehicle, following an investigative plan, adjusting to changing conditions, documenting activity on video, and preparing a detailed report after the assignment. Every case is different, and the work requires judgment, patience, focus, and professionalism. Important Fit Note This position is not intended for candidates whose background is primarily in security, loss prevention, asset protection, casino surveillance, or monitor-room surveillance. Those roles may involve observation, but they are substantially different from the work performed by Sherlock surveillance investigators. This role requires mobile, covert, field based investigative work in real world environments. Investigators work independently from their vehicles, travel to changing assignment locations, document insurance claims activity through video, adapt to unpredictable conditions, maintain detailed written reports, and make sound decisions in the field. Candidates should apply only if they are specifically interested in professional field surveillance investigations, not general security or stationary surveillance work. What You Will Be Doing Surveillance Investigators conduct covert surveillance operations throughout Michigan to obtain video documentation and prepare written reports supporting the visual evidence gathered during investigations.

You may be asked to:

Conduct mobile vehicle based surveillance. Conduct static surveillance from your vehicle. Conduct pedestrian surveillance when appropriate. Document activity through video. Prepare detailed investigative reports after each assignment. Communicate with supervisors and case managers. Follow case instructions and investigative strategy. Conduct in-person interviews with subjects or witnesses when assigned. Collect evidence from accident scenes when assigned. Conduct all investigative activity legally, ethically, and professionally. Equipment and Vehicle Requirements Sherlock Investigations provides all required camera equipment and operational supplies. Surveillance Investigators are responsible for providing: A home computer. A reliable internet connection. A reliable, suitable, and fully insured personal vehicle capable of being used for surveillance assignments. A valid driver's license. Investigators travel from their residence to various assignment locations throughout Michigan. Commute time is paid. Mileage is reimbursed at $0.73 per mile for qualifying commute and work-related mileage. Job Requirements Ability to successfully complete Sherlock Investigations' three-week training program. Ability to write professionally, accurately, and efficiently. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word. Basic knowledge of digital video cameras and related software. Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. Ability to self-manage, take initiative, and work independently in the field. Ability to take direction from supervisors and understand the purpose of an assignment. Ability to work independently or as part of a surveillance team. Ability to spend extended periods inside a vehicle. Ability and willingness to drive several hundred miles per week when assignments require it. Flexible availability. Days and hours vary weekly and may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and irregular schedules. Weekly hours may vary from approximately 32 to 45 hours depending on caseload. Reliable, suitable, and fully insured personal vehicle capable of being used for surveillance. Valid driver's license. Ability to pass a thorough background check required for work in a regulated investigative industry.
