Job Description:

Under supervision, will learn the primary responsibility of identifying and reporting Adult and Pediatric HIV cases, including completeness and follow-up of under reporting of HIV cases. Will learn to ensure investigations of laboratory results, HIV viral load and CD4 counts are conducted and coordinated with current HIV reporting. Under supervision, will be trained to perform daily assigned surveillance activities according to existing surveillance protocol. Will learn to assist in the evaluation of HIV morbidity and mortality reporting. Will learn to complete thorough epidemiological field investigations of selected high priority HIV cases reported with no identified risk, race, gender and other required data as required from CDC. Maintains confidentiality and integrity of all surveillance records and files in the custody of the HIV Field Surveillance Unit. In addition, ensures the confidentiality of all patient information, including paper reports, computer files or printouts, and telephone/in person conversations. Will learn to interpret and apply laws, rules and regulations as these apply to Surveillance. Establishes rapport with Health Care Providers, Laboratories and Out-of State Jurisdictions. Confers with physicians and interstate government officials and their representatives to collect data for completion of reporting and prepare reports containing findings and conclusions. Participates in trainings, meetings and other events as required by the Surveillance Unit; including the Division of Syndemic and Substance Use Services

REQUIREMENTS

NOTE:

 Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience. Four (4) years of professional experience in a health or social service related program, which shall have included responsibilities for interviewing, investigating, and/or conducting public health care surveys or patient care services. OR Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

 "Professional experience" refers to work that is analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range of basic knowledge of the profession's concepts and practices; and is performed with the authority to act and make accurate and informed decisions.

LICENSE:

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
