In addition, the agency is responsible for investigating and enforcing violations of the laws and regulations that prohibit illegal gambling activities in the state and monitoring New Mexico¿s tribal gaming compacts through the appointment of a state gaming representative. The Gaming Control Board members are state officials whom the Governor appoints with the advice and consent of the New Mexico State Senate. The Board's licensing and certification process is rigorous and designed to ensure that both the citizens of New Mexico as well as guests to our state can enjoy gaming in a fair and honest environment. During the licensing and certification process, the audit and law enforcement staff conduct thorough investigations of a business's background, as well as that of all individuals associated with the business. The results of the investigation are then presented to the Gaming Control Board, which considers the applicant's suitability to conduct gaming operations in New Mexico. While the measures employed during our application, compliance, and enforcement processes are admittedly strenuous, only by qualifying and then carefully regulating the venues and people involved in the gambling industry can we protect the public's interests. We take our regulation of New Mexico's gambling activities very seriously, and violations of the Board's rules or the New Mexico Gaming Control Act can result in severe administrative sanctions and criminal prosecution. Interviews are anticipated to be conducted within two weeks of posting closing date.. Why does the job exist? The Special Agent upholds and enforces statutory requirements as outlined in the Gaming Control Act, Bingo and Raffle Act, and the New Mexico Criminal Code against illegal behavior on licensed gaming premises or conduct that affects the gaming industry within the State of New Mexico. How does it get done? The Special Agent conducts criminal investigations pertaining to gaming funds, licensees, and other potential violations that may occur in and affect the New Mexico gaming industry. The position serves as investigative liaison with all levels of law enforcement, criminal justice agencies, regulatory agencies, District Attorney offices and the Judicial System in an effort to provide background analysis, address jurisdictional inquiries or pursue prosecution. The position liaisons with other Gaming Control Board divisions on a routine basis to share information and to aid overall regulation and compliance actions. This position involves accurately interpreting, summarizing, analyzing and organizing accounting data from complex gaming transactions and vault counts during regular inspection of licensees. This position prepares reports for management review and may use such reports to present to the Board. This position independently conducts investigations including into compliance, background, financial, criminal, forensic and internal affairs in support of the Board or statewide gaming control efforts. This position will conduct background investigations on gaming and bingo applicants who submit applications for licensure with the New Mexico Gaming Control Board. The Enforcement Division portion of the backgrounding process consists primarily of analyzing criminal histories and conducting interviews to determine an applicant's suitability for licensure. Minimum Qualification Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Police Science, Political Science, or other related field and three (3) years of experience in law enforcement, criminal and/or white collar or economic/financial fraud investigations. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling seven (7) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Must be a New Mexico Certified and Commissioned Law Enforcement Officer (Police Officer), or be eligible for Certification by Waiver, subject to the provisions of Chapter 29, Article 1 NMSA 1978, as set forth in 29-7-6 NMSA 1978, 29-7-10 NMSA 1978 and 10.29.6 NMAC, and as specifically enacted in statute, as established by the New Mexico Legislature, conferring statutory authority upon an agency to appoint, employ, and commission Police Officers pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 29 NMSA 1978 or pursuant to

(G), 70-5-20 and 60-14-4(T). Employment Requirements Selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid Class D New Mexico Driver's License (or equivalent license from another state). Selected candidate will be subject to an extensive pre-employment background check that includes fingerprinting. New Mexico Gaming Control Board employees may not participate in any gaming activity including bingo and raffle in the State of New Mexico. This does not include State Lottery and New Mexico horse racing. Working Conditions Special Agent positions are designated as safety sensitive and subject to random drug and alcohol screening. Performs all law enforcement physical requirements such as running, walking, lifting, firearms qualifications and driving vehicles. Possible exposure to hazards associated with law enforcement/firearms and smoking environments. Statewide travel using a state vehicle is required 45% of the time with extended periods of sitting/driving with numerous deadlines.
