Iowa Park CISD pecial Education Life Skills / Functional Academics Teacher (Including Kindergarten Resource Instruction Support) Position Summary The Special Education Life Skills / Functional Academics Teacher provides specialized instruction and support for students with disabilities in a structured, supportive learning environment. This position focuses on functional academics, life skills development, behavior support, communication, and individualized instruction aligned to student IEP goals. In addition, this teacher will provide resource instructional minutes and support for kindergarten students receiving special education services. The teacher will collaborate closely with general education teachers, related service providers, paraprofessionals, families, and campus administration to ensure students receive meaningful educational opportunities that promote independence, academic growth, and social-emotional success. Primary Responsibilities Instruction & Student Support Provide direct instruction in functional academics, communication, social skills, adaptive behavior, and daily living skills. Develop and implement individualized lessons aligned to student IEP goals and state standards. Provide kindergarten resource instruction and interventions for students receiving special education services. Differentiate instruction to meet a wide range of cognitive, academic, behavioral, and communication needs. Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies and accommodations to support student success. Implement behavior intervention plans and provide positive behavioral supports. Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation of data related to IEP goals and objectives. Create a safe, structured, and engaging classroom environment that promotes student independence and growth. Special Education Compliance Participate in ARD/IEP meetings and collaborate in the development of individualized education plans. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district special education procedures and timelines. Maintain accurate records, progress reports, accommodations, modifications, and documentation required for special education services. Collaborate with diagnosticians, speech therapists, occupational therapists, counselors, and other support staff. Collaboration & Communication Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and needs. Collaborate with classroom teachers to support inclusion opportunities and accommodations for students. Supervise and support paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom or student support services. Participate in campus professional development, staff meetings, and collaborative planning opportunities. Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Valid Texas teaching certificate with Special Education certification required. ESL certification preferred or willingness to obtain. Experience working with students with significant cognitive, behavioral, communication, or adaptive needs preferred. Strong classroom management, collaboration, and communication skills. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices. Ability to develop and implement individualized instructional plans. Ability to work collaboratively with staff, families, and service providers. Strong organizational and data collection skills. Ability to support students with varying academic, behavioral, and functional needs. Working Conditions Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and assisting students as needed. Ability to manage student behaviors and support students with physical or adaptive needs. May include assisting students with toileting, feeding, mobility, and other daily living tasks as needed.
