Job Description

Job Title:
Machine Technician Job Description This role focuses on monitoring, maintaining, and operating vacuum coating machines in a clean, high-tech, and climate-controlled production environment. The machine technician supports production by operating equipment, assisting with quality control, and performing routine tasks such as loading and unloading rolls, cleaning components, and adjusting metals on cathodes. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to safety and quality in a fast-paced manufacturing setting. Responsibilities Monitor, maintain, and operate vacuum coating machines to support consistent and efficient production. Help machine operators by cleaning cores, bringing carts, taping rolls, cleaning equipment and work areas, and adjusting metals on cathodes as needed. Operate production equipment, including loading and unloading rolls safely and efficiently. Assist in quality control measures by following established procedures and ensuring products meet customer and company standards. Perform routine production tasks to support continuous operation of the coating and manufacturing processes. Follow OSHA and company safety policies at all times and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Work independently while keeping other team members informed of progress, issues, and concerns. Lift and move heavy objects (50-70 lbs.) occasionally as part of normal production duties. Support machine setup and basic adjustments to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime. Use hand tools and basic mechanical skills to assist with equipment operation and minor maintenance tasks. Essential Skills At least two years of manufacturing experience. High school diploma or GED. Ability to operate machines and production equipment safely and accurately. Mechanical aptitude with exposure to machine operation, machine setup, and basic mechanical systems. Comfort using hand tools in a production or manufacturing environment. Ability to lift up to 50-70 lbs. occasionally and perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, and climbing ladders or stairways throughout the shift. Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with team members. Strong work ethic and reliability, with a focus on productivity and meeting production goals. Commitment to customer quality and attention to detail in all tasks. Willingness and ability to work 3rd shift (9:30 PM-6:00 AM). Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with electrical and mechanical systems in a manufacturing environment. Experience with pumps or fabrication is a plus. Good experience in machine setup and adjustment is beneficial. Interest in learning new technologies and processes, including vacuum coating and thin film applications. Desire to work with cutting-edge, hard thin film products and services for aerospace, medical, and commercial applications. Ability to adapt to a progressive, high-tech, and environmentally conscious production environment. Appreciation for climate-controlled facilities and adherence to safety and cleanliness standards. Work Environment The facility is climate controlled and maintains a clean, high-tech, and environmentally friendly production environment. Operations support advanced vacuum coating and hard thin film products used in aerospace, medical, and commercial applications. The primary schedule for this role is 3rd shift (9:30 PM-6:00 AM), and there are also 1st shift operations from 5:30 AM to 2:00 PM. The workplace emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and organization, with no requirement for steel-toe footwear. Team members stand, walk, lift materials, and may climb ladders or stairways during their shifts while working with modern production equipment, hand tools, and vacuum coating machinery. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jeffersonville, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
