An Aircraft or A & P Mechanic maintains and repairs different types of aircraft such as planes, jets or helicopters. Provides scheduled maintenance and inspections. May specialize in working on the frame, engine, electrical systems or other parts of an aircraft, or specialize in certain types of aircraft.
This position reports directly to the Department Manager and Director of Maintenance.
Service, repair and modify aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty.
Maintain and repair aircraft, engines, propellers and components including, but not limited to, flight controls, engines, fuel systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical components.
Utilize technical knowledge of airframe and powerplant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and apply the required expertise in restoring equipment condition and or operation.
Employ technical knowledge to solve moderate problems by interpreting technical documentation such as manufacturers' manuals, blueprints, ICAs, MELs and FAA regulations to return the aircraft to an airworthy condition.
Ability to work with and receive technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician. Exercise good judgment in working with people in a team environment as well as in aircraft maintenance and safety practices.
Requirements
Education and/or Experience Minimum qualifications are:
FAA mechanic certificate with airframe and power plant ratings.
Must be able to demonstrate competent use of the basic tools of the trade within the first six (6) months.
Experience should consist of formal and informal systems training, maintenance of aircraft and engine systems, troubleshooting, dispatch requirements, tools, ground support equipment, technical reports and forms, manuals, catalogs, and work practices in an actual line or hangar maintenance environment.
Must have the ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 180 days annually at 60-day intervals.
Preferred Requirements:
Two years' experience in aircraft maintenance.
Essential Job Functions and Skills:
Daily Requirements
Maintain knowledge of, and comply with, FAA regulations, company procedures, the GMM and MEL, to troubleshoot and repair open aircraft discrepancies, as directed by a supervisor.
Ensure all logbook entries are posted and correct before returning an aircraft to service (Ref. 14 CFR Parts 43.9 & 43.11).
Inventory, maintain, and order aircraft equipment and supplies, as directed by a supervisor or manager, in order to maintain aircraft, and aircraft support equipment.
Basic Skills:
Tow aircraft, refuel, defuel, pre and post flight inspection of aircraft
Service all gases and liquids, change tires
Remove and replace components and perform functional checks of these components.
Participate in phase and special inspections to include service bulletins and airworthiness directives.
Basic Knowledge & Proficiency
Successfully complete all training required for job level and assigned airframe.
Maintain a basic understanding of the systems, components, and engines of the aircraft.
Pursue training and development opportunities and continue to build knowledge and expertise; share knowledge and expertise with others.
Additional Essential Job Functions and Skills
Satisfactorily live and work for extended and irregular hours, in a variety of environmental conditions including hot and cold temperatures ( 90 degrees F), high elevations, dusty conditions and in stressful situations.
Capable of pulling 170 lb. load 50 feet on flat terrain within 2.0 minutes; capable of moving over flat terrain 1.0 mile with backpack weighing 35 lbs. within 15 minutes; capable of completing 10 squats and 5 overhead presses while holding a 20 lb. weight in each hand within 2.0 minutes.
Able to routinely lift 75 pounds, climb, bend, kneel, crawl and stoop frequently in confined spaces.
