Belvoir, VA and is primarily for the purposes of contact incumbent onboarding. Current employees of BASOPS Contract at Ft. Position Description:
The Fire Alarm System Mechanic works with other craftsmen or crews in the performance of assigned work duties. Coordinates work/inspections with facility managers/ occupants. Must be able to troubleshoot and identify problems. Maintains and repairs all aspects of commercial, and industrial alarm and electrical distribution systems including fire alarm systems. Responds to emergency repair calls to restore operations upon notice during regular hours or after duty on-call hours. Must be able to trouble shoot fire alarm panels and isolate problems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned. Performs fire alarm maintenance and associated electrical work. Maintains, repairs, replaces and installs electrical systems to include, but not limited to, switches, fixtures, motors, transformers, controllers, associated electronic components, distribution and wiring. Inspects, tests, installs, and modifies control panels. Use testing instruments. Extensive use of analog and digital electronics knowledge and training. Extensive work with cathodic protection, communications and grounding systems. Required to comply with PPE requirements and standards. Must be able to troubleshoot and identify problems. Works job assignments, research and requisitions materials, and prepares necessary documents and reports. Responsible to perform all assigned duties as safely and efficiently as possible to maintain a safe work environment in accordance with all applicable rules and standards. Including, but not limited to, OSHA and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)Life Safety Codes and Standards. Able to read and interpret Work Orders, parts requests, drawings/schematics/blueprints and manuals in order to accomplish assigned duties. Accomplishes periodic inspections, recurring maintenance requirements and associated documentation. Maintains systems to conform to written guidance and applicable changes. Maintains required operating forms and records and assures proper use of all assigned shop equipment. Complete jobs using a variety of hand tools, portable power tools, shop equipment, Standard measuring instruments, make standard shop computations relating dimensions of work, and select materials necessary for the work. Makes adjustments to, and maintain shop equipment, and hand-tools to ensure proper operation.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Minimum of six (6) years' experience within the residential/commercial/industrial alarm systems career field. Vendor certifications and/or state licensing in alarm systems highly desired. Current CPR certification required. Must be able to comply with PPE requirements and standards. Experience in O&M to include support of a work force that is responsible for O&M and repair of all facility systems, subsystems, and selected equipment typically found in a Base Operating Services contract. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English. Must be able to pass a company drug screen and background check. Must possess a valid state driver's license and insurable driving record.
