What the role involves The technician disassembles vehicles and installs new bumpers, fenders, grills, moldings, and other bolt on and welded parts. Repairs range from small to heavy, with finishing and priming included. Repaired areas are restored to original manufacturer specifications, including door, hood, and deck alignment, chassis and frame measurements, and welded on unibody parts. Painting panel and part edges is part of the job when needed to meet customer requirements, once proper training is given and equipment is provided. Accuracy and communication matter in this shop. The technician checks parts for accuracy before starting and notifies the parts manager of incorrect parts or other discrepancies. Any hidden or missed damage not shown on the repair order goes straight to the production manager. The technician lets the production manager know when a job is nearing completion and requests the next assignment, aims to meet and exceed the target delivery date on each repair order, and takes responsibility for all parts assigned to their jobs. Interior and exterior areas not being repaired are protected from dust, dirt, scratches, primer, and overspray. The technician reviews every line item of each repair order that applies to their work and visually inspects each vehicle to confirm repairs are complete. The technician also guides, teaches, and supports an assigned apprentice. What the shop is looking for Candidates need a complete understanding of all facets of light to heavy collision repair and the skills of a welder who can remove and refit welded panels and bolt on items. The ability to read, understand, and accurately and consistently perform written instructions is required, along with the ability to work independently and with others in an organized manner, with minimal supervision.
