Light Duty Truck Technician - Level III Gas & Diesel | Advanced Diagnostics DEI Truck & RV Santa Clarita, CA 91351 Full-Time | Monday-Friday About DEI Truck & RV DEI Truck & RV is seeking an experienced Level III Light Duty Truck Technician to join our team. We are an established, family-owned repair facility serving the Santa Clarita Valley. Our shop specializes in gas and diesel trucks, SUVs, commercial vehicles, fleets, and RV chassis. We provide everything from routine maintenance and repair to advanced electrical, drivability, engine, transmission, suspension, and diagnostic work. Our working environment is professional, fast-paced, steady, and focused on dealer-level diagnostic and repair capabilities without the dealership environment. We are looking for an experienced technician who takes pride in accurately diagnosing problems, performing quality repairs, and doing the job right. This is not an entry-level or general maintenance technician position. We are looking for an experienced diagnostic technician who can independently troubleshoot complex vehicle problems and carry repairs through to completion. Position Overview The Level III Light Duty Truck Technician will primarily diagnose, service, and repair domestic and import light-duty trucks and large SUVs equipped with both diesel and gasoline engines. The ideal candidate has a minimum of 10 years of professional automotive/truck repair experience with extensive hands-on diagnostic experience. A strong understanding of modern vehicle electronics is essential. Candidates should be comfortable diagnosing electrical systems, modules, communication networks, and CAN BUS/network faults, rather than relying solely on trouble codes to determine the cause of a failure. Primary Responsibilities Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on light-duty gas and diesel trucks and SUVs. Diagnose engine performance, drivability, starting, charging, fuel, emissions, cooling, and related vehicle systems. Diagnose electrical and electronic system faults, including intermittent electrical problems. Diagnose CAN BUS and vehicle communication/network issues, including module communication faults. Read and accurately interpret wiring diagrams, connector views, technical service information, and diagnostic procedures. Use professional scan tools, DVOMs, scopes, test equipment, and manufacturer/service information to accurately identify failures. Analyze DTCs, live data, freeze-frame information, bidirectional controls, and other diagnostic information. Perform diesel fuel-system, turbocharger, emissions, aftertreatment, and related engine diagnostics and repairs. Perform gas-engine drivability and engine-performance diagnostics and repairs. Diagnose and repair ABS, braking, steering, suspension, and front-end systems. Diagnose and repair automotive A/C and heating systems. Perform engine mechanical diagnostics, including compression, cylinder contribution/balance, leak-down, cooling-system, oil-pressure, and related testing as appropriate. Diagnose parasitic draws, shorts, opens, high-resistance circuits, grounds, power distribution, sensors, actuators, and module-related problems. Complete repairs efficiently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship. Verify repairs through appropriate testing and road testing. Accurately document diagnostic findings, recommended repairs, and completed work on repair orders. Maintain a clean, organized, professional, and safe work area. Communicate effectively with service advisors, management, and other technicians. Assist less-experienced technicians with diagnostic or technical issues when appropriate. Required Qualifications Candidates for this Level III position should have: 10+ years of professional automotive/light-duty truck repair experience. Extensive experience diagnosing and repairing both diesel and gasoline light-duty trucks. Strong advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities. Demonstrated experience diagnosing electrical and electronic systems. Working knowledge of CAN BUS, vehicle networks, modules, and communication-system diagnostics. Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams and technical service information. Experience using professional diagnostic scan tools and electrical testing equipment. Strong understanding of modern computer-controlled engine and vehicle systems. Ability to diagnose a problem rather than simply replace components based on fault codes. Ability to work independently and take a vehicle from initial diagnosis through completed repair and verification. Sufficient personal hand tools to perform normal repairs. Specialty tools and equipment are supplied and maintained by DEI. Valid California driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Legal authorization to work in the United States. Ability to work safely, cleanly, professionally, and efficiently. Dependability, professionalism, strong attendance, and the ability to work as part of a team. ASE Certifications — Preferred ASE certification is preferred, particularly in areas applicable to this position, including: Electrical/Electronic Systems Engine Performance Advanced Engine Performance Electronic Diesel Engine Diagnosis Brakes Suspension & Steering Heating & Air Conditioning ASE certifications related to advanced diagnostics, electrical systems, diesel engine diagnosis, A/C, brakes, and front-end/suspension work are highly desired. EPA Section 609 A/C certification is also highly desirable. Equivalent manufacturer training and extensive documented experience will be considered. What We're Looking For Beyond years of experience, we're looking for a technician who takes pride in being able to figure out the difficult problems. The right person for this position is methodical, experienced, and comfortable working through a diagnostic process instead of guessing or replacing parts unnecessarily. You should be able to use service information, wiring diagrams, scan data, electrical testing, and your own experience to determine the actual cause of a customer's concern.
