Clean Harbors seeks a Lead Vehicle Mechanic to oversee maintenance and repair of our diverse fleet supporting environmental and industrial services. In this role, you will diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, perform preventative maintenance, and ensure compliance with DOT, safety, and environmental standards. You will lead and mentor shop staff, coordinate work orders, maintain accurate service records, and support emergency response readiness, all within a safety-first, environmentally responsible culture focused on continuous improvement. Responsibilities Lead daily maintenance and repair of company vehicles and equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and technical manuals Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, inspections, and safety checks in compliance with DOT and company standards Oversee, mentor, and support mechanics, assigning work orders and reviewing completed work for quality Maintain accurate maintenance records, parts usage, and service logs within fleet management systems Coordinate with operations to prioritize repairs, minimize downtime, and support emergency response readiness Ensure shop compliance with safety, environmental, and hazardous waste handling procedures Work with vendors to source parts, manage inventory, and support cost-effective repairs Assist in developing maintenance schedules and improvement initiatives for fleet reliability Participate in safety meetings, trainings, and continuous improvement efforts Required Skills Diesel engine repair Heavy truck and trailer maintenance Hydraulic systems troubleshooting Electrical diagnostics (12 V/24 V) DOT and fleet safety compliance Preventive maintenance scheduling Use of diagnostic software and tools Maintenance recordkeeping and CMMSWelding and fabrication basics Vendor and parts management
