Join the Town of Wethersfield Physical Services Department! This role is responsible for skilled mechanical work involving the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of town vehicles and equipment, including police cruisers, automobiles, trucks, fire apparatus, marine equipment, and heavy/light machinery powered by diesel or gasoline engines. Additionally, will assist with our leaf collection program and snow plowing/removal as required.
Examples of Specific Duties:
Operates vehicle or equipment, or uses lift or jack to analyze, test, inspect, and determine cause of malfunction. Removes, disassembles, repairs, rebuilds, or replaces defective units and parts using mechanic's power equipment and hand tools. Performs engine and transmission overhauls, electrical system repairs and rewiring, brake-jobs, clutch repairs and replacements, and similar mechanical work. Performs standard vehicle preventative maintenance, including engine tune-ups, oil changes, lubrication, and tire repairs and balancing. Repairs and services power motors, snow blowers, generators and mechanical equipment in town buildings. Completes work order and reports tasks accomplished on time sheet and submits to supervisor. May operate equipment and perform general maintenance work as required.
Qualifications:
Completion of vocational technical school program in automotive repair. Five years of experience as journeyman mechanic. Valid CDL Class B license.
