Job Summary We are seeking an experienced, organized, and dependable Small Engine & Fleet Mechanic to oversee the maintenance and repair of our company vehicles, equipment, and shop operations. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining a variety of small-engine equipment, trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment while ensuring preventative maintenance is completed on schedule. The ideal candidate is a hands-on mechanic who also has strong computer, administrative, and organizational skills and is comfortable managing the day-to-day operations of a busy mechanic shop. This position requires accurate recordkeeping, parts and inventory management, preventative maintenance scheduling, and coordination with management to minimize equipment downtime. Key Responsibilities Diagnose, repair, service, and maintain 2-cycle and 4-cycle small-engine equipment, including blowers, edgers, trimmers, weed eaters, chainsaws, mowers, and other landscape equipment. Experience servicing brands such as Stihl, Echo, Scag, John Deere, and similar commercial equipment. Diagnose and repair mechanical issues involving engines, transmissions, clutches, brakes, differentials, drive shafts, axles, electrical systems, and other mechanical components. Perform maintenance and repairs on company trucks, trailers, dump trucks, tractors, excavators, skid steers, and other construction and landscape equipment. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and operating issues and determine appropriate repairs. Develop, schedule, track, and complete preventative maintenance for company vehicles and equipment. Maintain accurate maintenance histories, service records, work orders, inspection records, and repair documentation. Utilize computerized fleet management systems to track maintenance, repairs, inspections, equipment issues, and service schedules. Experience with Fleetio Fleet Management software is preferred. Monitor vehicle and equipment inspection reports and address reported maintenance or safety concerns in a timely manner. Coordinate with the Operations Manager regarding equipment repairs, maintenance priorities, downtime, and replacement needs. Research, order, receive, and maintain necessary parts, supplies, fluids, filters, and shop materials. Maintain an organized inventory of commonly used parts and shop supplies. Communicate with outside vendors, dealerships, and repair facilities when outside service is required. Maintain a clean, safe, efficient, and highly organized mechanic shop and equipment storage area. Help establish and maintain shop procedures, maintenance schedules, parts organization, and equipment tracking systems. Prioritize repairs based on operational needs and communicate expected equipment downtime to management. Read and interpret manufacturer manuals, service specifications, diagrams, and technical information. Test repaired equipment to verify proper operation and ensure repairs meet company safety and quality standards. Assist with training employees on daily vehicle/equipment inspections, preventative care, and proper operation of company equipment. Ensure vehicles and equipment are maintained in safe operating condition. Wear required personal protective equipment and follow all company safety policies and applicable regulations. Perform other shop, equipment, and fleet-related duties as assigned. Required Skills & Qualifications Previous professional experience as a small engine mechanic, equipment mechanic, fleet mechanic, shop mechanic, or similar position. Strong experience diagnosing and repairing 2-cycle and 4-cycle engines. Mechanical knowledge of commercial landscape equipment, trucks, trailers, and/or heavy equipment. Previous experience running, managing, or taking primary responsibility for a mechanic shop or fleet maintenance operation strongly preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish required. Strong computer skills and ability to learn and utilize fleet management and maintenance software. Strong administrative skills, including accurate data entry, recordkeeping, work orders, maintenance documentation, and scheduling. Fleetio Fleet Management experience preferred. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple repairs and maintenance priorities while keeping the shop organized and equipment operational. Ability to identify problems, troubleshoot effectively, and determine appropriate repairs. Ability to research and order parts and maintain an organized parts inventory. Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate effectively with managers, employees, vendors, and outside repair facilities. Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision. Dependable, detail-oriented, and accountable for completing repairs and preventative maintenance in a timely manner. Ability to safely operate the tools and equipment necessary to perform assigned work. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs. repeatedly throughout the workday. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in various positions for extended periods. Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, dust, noise, etc.

Pay:

$25.00 - $35.00 per hour
