The class is responsible for preventive maintenance, major and minor repairs, vehicle modifications, maintenance documentation, and parts inventories. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed, develops work methods and sequences under general supervision. Requires a high school diploma or GED. Requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience in fire apparatus, police vehicles, automobiles, heavy equipment maintenance and repairs. Must have experience with diagnostics scanning tools or a closely related field. Performs skilled work involving rules/systems but solves problems almost constantly. Performs addition and subtraction, multiplication and division and/or calculates ratios, rates and percents. Reads technical instructions, procedures manuals, and charts to solve practical problems; composes routine and specialized reports and forms; speaks compound sentences using normal grammar and word form. Performs manual and technical tasks requiring a wide range of procedures and requiring intensive understanding of a restricted field or complete familiarity with the functions of a unit or small division of an operating agency; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure. Requires a valid State of Florida driver license and a satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment. Must have a State of Florida Class A CDL within six (6) months of employment. Must have and maintain a minimum of five (5) EVT certifications in fire apparatus within eighteen (18) months of employment.
