Interstate Power Systems Position Summary Interstate Power Systems is seeking an experienced Trailer Mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on commercial trailers, including dry vans, reefers, flatbeds, tankers, and specialty equipment. This position works closely with fleet customers to ensure trailer safety, reliability, and compliance with DOT requirements.
Pay Range:
$27.84 - $32.48/ Hour DOE Responsibilities Perform inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on commercial trailers. Repair and replace brake systems, wheel ends, suspension components, landing gear, doors, flooring, lighting, and electrical systems. Conduct DOT inspections and document findings accurately. Perform welding and fabrication repairs as required. Troubleshoot and repair ABS systems and trailer electrical wiring. Repair trailer structural damage, including panels, roofs, doors, and frames. Maintain a safe and organized work area. Complete repair orders, work orders, and inspection reports accurately and timely. Communicate effectively with Service Advisors, Foremen, and customers regarding repair recommendations. Follow all company safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications Required:
Minimum 2 years of commercial trailer repair experience. Strong understanding of trailer air brake systems and suspension systems. Ability to diagnose and repair trailer electrical and lighting systems. Experience performing DOT trailer inspections. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in a physically demanding environment. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Valid Class A CDL (Commercial Driver's License) is required. Ability to road test equipment and move trailers safely within customer facilities and company property.
Preferred:
Welding and fabrication experience. Refrigerated trailer (reefer) experience. ASE, TMC, or manufacturer certifications. Experience with fleet maintenance software and electronic inspection systems.
