About The Mulch Center The Mulch Center is a leading Chicagoland producer of mulch, soil blends and landscape materials. Our trucks and trailers play a critical role in moving raw materials, delivering bulk orders, and supporting operations across multiple locations. We are looking for a dependable Semi Truck and Trailer Mechanic to keep our trucks, trailers and yard equipment running safely and efficiently. Job Description Diagnose and repair issues on Class 8 semi trucks and various trailers (end dumps, walking floors, flatbeds, live-bottoms, etc.) Perform PMs and routine services including oil changes, brakes, wheel seals, electrical repairs, suspension work, and lighting Diagnose engine codes and perform engine repairs Perform basic welding and fabrication repairs as needed Inspect trucks and trailers for DOT compliance and prepare units for annual inspections Handle occasional repairs on related equipment (skid steers, loaders, yard vehicles) if experienced Complete work orders accurately and communicate needed repairs to management Maintain a clean, organized shop environment Provide occasional road-service assistance for breakdowns What We're Looking For 5+ years (minimum) of experience as a diesel, semi truck, or trailer mechanic Strong diagnostic skills in brakes, air systems, suspension, electrical, and hydraulics Ability to work independently and troubleshoot efficiently Valid CDL license required Ability to train operators on proper pre-trip inspections Working knowledge of fleet management software designed to track, analyze, and manage vehicles and equipment ASE certification preferred but not required Basic welding/fabrication skills a plus Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in varying outdoor/shop conditions Why Work With Us Competitive hourly pay based on experience Year-round, steady work (no seasonal layoffs) Overtime opportunities Health, dental, vision (if applicable) Paid holidays and PTO Veteran-owned company with a strong team culture Clean, well-equipped shop and a fleet undergoing continuous upgrades Opportunities for growth and advancement
