Service Manager / Used Car Manager Position Summary The Used Car Reconditioning Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and performing necessary mechanical and cosmetic repairs on pre-owned vehicles to ensure they meet dealership and manufacturer standards for retail sale. This role is critical in preparing trade-ins, auction purchases, and off-lease vehicles for the front line quickly, efficiently, and with a high level of quality. Key Responsibilities Perform comprehensive inspections of incoming used vehicles and document all needed repairs. Diagnose and repair mechanical issues, including brakes, suspension, steering, electrical, and engine performance. Perform maintenance services such as oil changes, fluid flushes, filters, and tire replacements. Complete safety and emissions checks according to state and dealership requirements. Communicate findings and repair needs clearly to the Used Car Manager or Service Manager. Ensure reconditioning work is completed within established timeframes to support inventory turn goals. Maintain accurate repair documentation in the DMS or inspection software. Perform quality checks on completed vehicles to verify work accuracy and readiness for sale. Keep work area organized, clean, and compliant with dealership and OSHA safety standards. Qualifications Minimum 2 years of experience as an automotive technician (dealership experience preferred). Strong diagnostic and repair skills in multiple areas (brakes, suspension, drivetrain, electrical, etc.). ASE certifications or equivalent manufacturer training a plus. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Ability to work independently and efficiently under time constraints. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods. Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling. Comfortable working in a fast-paced shop environment.
