Job Description
Come join Team Chatham! The Town of Chatham is currently accepting applications for the position of Heavy Equipment Operator/Vehicle Mechanic in the Highway Division of the Department of Public Works. Under the general direction of the Director of Public Works and direct supervision of the Highway Division Foreman, the Heavy Equipment Operator/Vehicle Mechanic is responsible for engine, hydraulic and motor repair and maintenance and performs skilled and unskilled labor including operation of heavy machinery, work related to installation and maintenance of drainage systems, resurfacing roads and sidewalks, maintaining roadside visibility and signage, street cleaning and re-landscaping after construction projects. This position participates in snow and ice operations performing snow removal; plowing and sanding as assigned. Callbacks and Overtime for weather related and state of emergency operations are mandatory. Duties require frequent and extended periods of outside work, subject to all weather conditions and extremes. Physical requirements include continuous walking, standing, climbing and regular and sustained periods of strenuous physical exertion. Must be able to lift 100lbs. This benefits and pension eligible position is 40 hours per week with overtime potential. Starting hourly wage is $29.36 - $30.55 ($2,348.80 - $2,444.00 biweekly) depending on qualifications and experience. Position is covered under the Chatham Municipal Employees Association and is Benefits and Pension eligible.
