Heavy Truck & Equipment Mechanic at Gillespie & Son, Inc. Gillespie & Son, Inc. is seeking an experienced heavy truck & equipment mechanic for our Chestertown, Maryland locations. This employee must possess general mechanical knowledge including hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and under carriage systems for our fleet. This employee will be responsible for performing a variety of skilled maintenance tasks involving minor and major services and repairs of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
Position Overview:
Provide support to ensure smooth and efficient operation of our Ready-Mix and Precast fleet. Perform skilled and routine maintenance of trucks, cranes, heavy equipment, and other rolling stock.
Heavy Truck & Equipment Mechanic Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Safely operate, repair, rebuild and perform routine maintenance on heavy duty diesel truck and equipment, including rolling stock to ensure its ability to operate safely. Diagnose & repair equipment, with assistance if needed from existing mechanics. Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with all safety regulations. Utilize a variety of power and hand tools and equipment. Maintain a clean work area. Identify and inform management of broken tools and missing supplies required for performing repairs on fleet equipment. Complete reports, work orders, order parts, and perform other administrative duties as required. Complies with Company policies, procedures, and standards. Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of one (1) year experience as a diesel mechanic. Valid driver's license - CDL preferred but not required. Ability to take directions from supervisors and complete assigned tasks. Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
Special Requirements:
Must be able to start work by 6:30 AM daily, arrive early/stay late as needed. Potential for overtime & weekends as required.
Physical and Safety Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the Employee will be required to move frequently, stand, walk, and sit. Employee must be able to stand, walk, crouch, squat, bend, reach, grasp, life, load, push, & pull throughout the day. The Employee is frequently required to use hands to touch, handle, and feel, and reach with hands and arms. The Employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50lbs and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100lbs. Maintain clean and safe shop environment by implementing and enforcing Health and Safety rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and prescribed instructions. Education and/or

Minimum one (1) year work experience on diesel engines, trucks, heavy equipment, and/or hydraulics.
Preferred:
Certificate or Degree from college or technical school.
Preferred:
Forklift and/or mobile crane experience.
