Heavy Equipment/ Truck Technician
Transdev is hiring for a Heavy Equipment/ Truck Technician in Elkton, MD!Transdev in Elkton, MD is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment/ Truck Technician to bolster our team. This role demands expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines across various vehicles and equipment. As a Heavy Equipment/ Truck Technician, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring safety, efficiency, and longevity for our vehicles.

Responsibilities:
- Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers by performing limited repairs with moderate supervision on basic and advanced maintenance such as replacement of light bulbs, fuses, lenses, wiper blades, belts, hoses, batteries, check fluid levels, change fluids and filters and lubricate components.
- Perform maintenance, repairs, and inspections on a variety of specialty heavy-duty equipment, including loaders, landfill packers, excavators, backhoes, morbark machinery, and Vermeer grinders.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and industry best practices.
- Perform mechanical repairs under moderate supervision including the repair of brakes and brake inspections, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains, transmission clutches, hydraulic systems, and electrical.
- Maintain records of all maintenance work completed on vehicles including parts and supplies used. Ensure that work orders are completed properly and accurately. Maintain parts usage records and order repair parts from designated suppliers
- Assist Tech III with preventative maintenance (PM's), safety maintenance inspections and annual maintenance inspections at prescribed intervals of time and usage
- Diagnoses and performs accurately all phases of vehicle and equipment repair under moderate supervision.
- Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective action taken
- Evaluates completed work prior to release and seeks approval w required
- Assist with road calls and emergency services as necessary
- Ad to Transdev standards, policies and procedures
- Moves vehicles safely between job and work area
- Repair and maintain all shop equipment
- Cleans vehicles as requested or required
- Other responsibility as requested or required\

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair (preferred)
- Class B CDL with passenger endorsement required (or expected within 3 months of hire)
- State inspection license (if required)
- ASE Certification preferred. Must participate in ASE testing program within 1 year (expected to have 3 ASE within 12 months of hire)
- Intermediate mechanical aptitude and 3 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred) or equivalent education and experience
- Ad to standards set by state DOT for motor vehicle inspections and safety standards
- Valid driver's license
- Intermediate problem-solving ability
- Intermediate computer skills
- Comfortable using hand tools
- Strong customer service skills and communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Maintain an organized shop and clean work environment
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
- Making sure vehicles are maintained and safe for our customers
- Possess adequate mechanic tool inventory to complete all assigned duties and maintained in a clean and safe manner
- Subject to DOT drug testing.
Physical Requirements:
- The essential functions of this position require the ability to:
- Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions-100% of the job is performed outside, work alone and in remote locations.
- Sit for extended periods (up to 6-8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces
- Push and pull objects, occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level
- Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
