Overview Join our dynamic team as a Fleet and Road Mechanic, where your expertise keeps our fleet running smoothly and safely across diverse terrains and conditions. In this vital role, you will be based as needed between our Scarborough and Lewiston shop with a service truck to diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, ensuring operational efficiency and safety standards are met. Duties Perform comprehensive diagnostics and repairs on heavy trucks, trailers, and road equipment using automotive electrical systems, schematics, and specialized tools. Conduct routine maintenance such as oil changes, tire services, brake repairs, suspension work, and alignment adjustments to optimize vehicle performance. Repair and fabricate components for heavy machinery including excavators, cranes, forklifts, farm machinery, and industrial equipment utilizing welding, fabrication techniques, and power tools. Troubleshoot complex mechanical systems including transmissions, hydraulics, air brake systems, shocks & struts, HVAC units, and diesel engines to identify issues accurately. Maintain detailed service records for all repairs performed; ensure compliance with safety standards such as air brake certifications and heavy equipment operation regulations. Assist in assembly or disassembly of equipment during repairs or upgrades; perform heavy lifting safely using appropriate techniques and equipment. Support vehicle systems repair involving electrical diagnostics, soldering, and troubleshooting automotive electrical systems for trucks and other fleet vehicles. Skills Proven experience in dealership settings or heavy equipment repair environments with a strong foundation in automotive diagnostics and mechanical systems repair. Extensive knowledge of fabricating parts for heavy machinery using welding techniques; familiar with schematics for troubleshooting complex systems. Hands-on experience with construction equipment, tractors-trailers,oil and propane trucks,and other large vehicles. Proficiency in operating power tools, hand tools, hydraulic presses, welding equipment, and specialized diagnostic tools. Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance procedures including tire service, brake repair, suspension alignment, shocks & struts replacement, HVAC servicing, and diesel engine repair. Ability to interpret technical schematics and manuals; excellent mechanical knowledge combined with electrical experience for vehicle electrical system repair. Commitment to safety protocols related to heavy lifting, equipment operation (such as heavy truck repair), and working with high-voltage or hydraulic systems.
