We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Truck & Trailer Mechanic to join our maintenance team in Michigan. The ideal candidate will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining company-owned trucks, trailers, and fleet equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with DOT regulations. Position Summary The Truck & Trailer Mechanic will perform preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and related equipment. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and a commitment to maintaining fleet safety and minimizing equipment downtime. Key ResponsibilitiesInspection & Maintenance Perform routine preventive maintenance on tractors, trailers, and fleet equipment. Conduct DOT inspections and complete maintenance reports accurately. Inspect brakes, suspension systems, steering components, tires, wheels, and driveline systems. Identify potential mechanical issues before they become major failures. Diagnostics & Repairs Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, and electrical systems. Troubleshoot pneumatic, hydraulic, ABS, HVAC, and air brake systems. Repair and replace damaged trailer components, including floors, roofs, doors, landing gear, and lighting systems. Perform welding and fabrication repairs as required. Utilize computerized diagnostic tools to identify and resolve mechanical faults. Safety & Compliance Ensure all maintenance work complies with FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards. Maintain accurate service records and repair documentation. Follow all safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE). Assist with roadside breakdown support when required. Inventory & Shop Maintenance Maintain organized work areas and shop equipment. Monitor inventory levels of parts, tools, and maintenance supplies. Communicate repair requirements and equipment status to management. QualificationsRequired High School Diploma or GED. Minimum 2-5 years of experience as a Truck and Trailer Mechanic. Experience repairing heavy-duty diesel trucks and commercial trailers. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems, electrical systems, and preventive maintenance procedures. Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical documents. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in various weather conditions. Preferred ASE Certification (Automotive Service Excellence). CDL (Commercial Driver's License). Experience with Freightliner, Volvo, Kenworth, Peterbilt, International, and Mack trucks. Welding and fabrication experience. Knowledge of fleet maintenance software and electronic diagnostic systems. Skills & Competencies Strong mechanical and technical troubleshooting skills. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship. Ability to perform under pressure and meet maintenance deadlines. Work Environment Maintenance shop and outdoor fleet maintenance operations. Exposure to noise, grease, chemicals, and varying weather conditions. Ability to stand, bend, crawl, and lift heavy equipment for extended periods.
Pay:
$25.00 - $30.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
