Job Description

Experienced Classic Car Mechanic / Restoration Technician Classic Auto Mill — Plainwell, Michigan Classic Auto Mill is looking for exceptional, highly experienced classic car mechanics to join our new location in Plainwell, Michigan. We are not looking for an entry-level technician or someone whose experience is limited to modern vehicles. We are looking for true mechanics—people who understand how older vehicles work, know how to diagnose problems without relying solely on a computer, and take pride in doing the job correctly. Our shop works with classic, antique, collector, muscle, and specialty vehicles. Projects can range from routine maintenance and mechanical repairs to major restoration work. What You'll Work On Classic and antique automobiles American muscle cars Vintage European vehicles Collector and specialty vehicles Routine maintenance and repairs Carburetor and fuel-system diagnosis and repair Ignition and electrical troubleshooting Brake, steering, and suspension systems Cooling systems Engine diagnosis, repair, and replacement Drivetrain and transmission-related work Restoration and mechanical rebuild projects Diagnosing vehicles that may have been sitting for years Inspecting vehicles and identifying mechanical and safety concerns Who We're Looking For We want mechanics with substantial hands-on automotive experience and a strong understanding of older vehicles.
The ideal candidate:
Has professional experience working on classic, antique, vintage, or collector vehicles Has strong mechanical diagnostic skills Understands carbureted engines and older ignition systems Can troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems methodically Is comfortable working on vehicles from different decades and manufacturers Can perform quality work without cutting corners Understands that classic cars require patience, research, craftsmanship, and attention to detail Keeps a clean and organized work area Can communicate clearly about what a vehicle needs and what work was performed Takes pride in workmanship and treats customer vehicles with care ASE certifications are welcome, but real-world classic car experience, mechanical knowledge, and quality of workmanship are extremely important to us. This Position Is NOT a Good Fit If Your automotive experience is primarily oil changes, tire work, or basic modern-vehicle maintenance. We need someone who can diagnose and repair mechanical problems—not simply replace parts based on a fault code. Why Classic Auto Mill? Compensation:
Competitive and based on experience and demonstrated skill level.

Pay:
$20.00 - $35.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
