Flextech Solutions is seeking a hands-on Automotive Electrical Test Systems Technician or Engineer to join our Traverse City, Buck Building Team. This position supports the construction, testing, documentation, and maintenance of automotive electronic test systems that simulate complete vehicle electrical architectures. The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on electrical work and is comfortable reading automotive wiring diagrams, identifying connectors and components, building wiring assemblies, troubleshooting communication issues, and working with automotive electronic control units (ECUs). We are open to candidates at different experience levels, including skilled automotive electrical technicians and experienced electrical engineers. Responsibilities and compensation will be based on the selected candidate's education, technical knowledge, and experience.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Build automotive electrical test systems using ECUs, connectors, wiring, terminals, relay boards, power supplies, network equipment, and other electronic components. Read and interpret automotive wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, connector views, and vehicle network topology documents. Wire and connect ECUs to support CAN and other automotive communication networks. Mount ECUs and related components to test panels using identification tags, brackets, and organized wiring. Identify and order ECUs, connectors, terminals, wiring, relay boards, and other required materials. Track ordered and received components using spreadsheets and inventory records. Assist with test-system layout, component placement, cable routing, and assembly. Use automotive diagnostic software and tools to confirm ECU communication and system functionality. Assist with ECU programming, vehicle configuration routines, scan reports, and other diagnostic procedures. Troubleshoot wiring, power, communication, and non-responsive ECU issues. Replace damaged or non-functioning components and perform ongoing test-system maintenance. Connect test systems to automated testing equipment, Ethernet-controlled relay boards, network switches, routers, and controllable power supplies. Create and maintain wiring diagrams, relay-board configurations, component lists, photographs, scan reports, and other build documentation. Update assignments, issues, and project status in Jira or a similar project-management system. Communicate build status, part shortages, technical problems, and scheduling concerns to the project lead. Help maintain a clean, secure, organized, and safe electronics assembly workspace. Perform other related duties needed to support automotive electrical test-system builds.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Hands-on experience with automotive electrical systems, electronics, wiring, diagnostics, or a closely related technical field. Ability to read and follow electrical schematics and automotive wiring documentation. Experience using electrical hand tools, crimping tools, multimeters, and related test equipment. Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail. Ability to organize and label wiring and electronic components accurately. Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Strong troubleshooting, analytical, documentation, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to manage multiple assignments and work independently after receiving direction. Dependable attendance and availability to work on-site during standard business hours. Ability to communicate professionally with coworkers, project leads, customers, and suppliers. Ability to safely lift and move electronic components, panels, tools, and building materials associated with the position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates do not need to meet every preferred qualification to be considered. Associate's or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, automotive technology, electronics, mechatronics, or a related field. Experience wiring automotive ECUs, sensors, modules, connectors, or test benches. Knowledge of vehicle electrical architecture and automotive communication networks. Experience with CAN, UDS, KWP2000, J1962/OBD-II, Ethernet, or related automotive diagnostic protocols. Experience with automotive diagnostic, scan, or ECU-programming software. Experience building hardware-in-the-loop systems, electrical test benches, simulator panels, prototype harnesses, or automotive development bucks. Experience with Ethernet-controlled relays, network switches, routers, or programmable power supplies. Ability to create or update CAD-based electrical drawings. Experience with Jira or another issue-tracking or project-management platform. Experience maintaining accurate parts, inventory, and build-tracking records.
