Job Description

The Town of Apex Public Works, Fleet Division is seeking applicants for our next Fleet Services Mechanic I/II. The Division of Fleet Services is responsible for managing and maintaining the towns fleet of roughly 700 vehicles and equipment. An employee in this class serves as a skilled mechanic in the Town's fleet garage. The employee performs automotive and mechanical work in the areas of: preventive maintenance, diagnosis of problems, brakes, electrical systems, suspension, hydraulic systems and the repair of gasoline, diesel, and electric vehicles. Work requires both diagnosis and repair of various types of light and heavy-duty vehicles ranging in size from class 1 - class 9. Employee is subject to the hazards of automotive mechanics including; working both inside and outside environments and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, gases, and oils. Employees are also subject to on-call or callback in emergency situations or bad weather.
