Diagnostic Automotive Technician /
A-Level Mechanic Location:
Hamburg, NJ Schedule:
Full-time | Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM | No weekends required
Compensation:
$90,000-$130,000+ annual earning potential for strong performers. Flat-rate pay generally reaches $50-$55/hr for true top-level technicians, based on experience, ASEs, diagnostic ability, and production history. About the Opportunity AutoShop Recruiting is partnering with one of our clients in the Hamburg, NJ area to hire a top-level Diagnostic Automotive Technician / A-Level Mechanic. This is a well-run, growth-minded independent repair operation with strong leadership, steady workflow, professional service advisors, a training-focused culture, and real opportunity for technicians who want to grow. This is not a "stand around and wait for gravy" shop. The right technician will be confident with diagnostics, heavy repair, inspections, estimating, and customer-pay production. What You'll Do Diagnose drivability, electrical, check-engine-light, engine performance, mechanical, and heavy repair concerns Perform full vehicle health assessments / MPIs with complete notes and estimates Use scan tools, testing procedures, and repair information to verify failures instead of guessing Perform high-quality repairs across domestic, Asian/import, and selected European vehicles Work on customer-pay repair and maintenance work in a professional flat-rate environment Collaborate closely with seasoned service advisors and communicate findings clearly Maintain productivity while protecting quality, safety, and comeback prevention Participate in a culture where downtime is used for cleaning, training, and improving What We're Looking For Proven automotive technician experience with strong diagnostic and mechanical ability A-level technician, master technician, or high-B technician ready to keep growing Comfortable with customer-pay flat-rate production, not just warranty-fed dealership work Ability to inspect vehicles thoroughly and build/write accurate estimates Experience with heavier repair, suspension, engine-compartment work, brakes, maintenance, diagnostics, tires, and alignments Strong tool investment, professional habits, and pride in workmanship Growth-minded attitude and willingness to train, learn, and develop into more responsibility over time ASE certifications are a strong plus; continued ASE/training growth is encouraged Valid driver's license Shop Environment Professional independent repair operation in the Hamburg, NJ area Two-building operation with a traditional repair shop and a fleet/truck center Approximately 95 vehicles per week, with volume pushing toward 125 Average repair order around $820 and roughly 2.5 labor hours per ticket Shop-Ware management system Top performers are regularly flagging 60-70 hours in a 40-hour week Fair flat-rate model designed to support estimate-writing and full vehicle inspections No Land Rover, Jaguar, exotics, heavy modification, deletes, or vintage restoration work Compensation & Benefits $90,000-$130,000+ annual earning potential for strong performers Flat-rate pay based on experience, production, ASEs, and diagnostic ability Top local pay range for qualified A-level talent is generally $50-$55/hr Disappearing guarantee may be considered for exceptional candidates with strong references Monday-Friday schedule, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM No weekends required Health, dental, and vision coverage 401(k) with 4% company match Profit sharing with vesting 40 hours paid training per year Onsite training center and paid training opportunities $500/year lifestyle savings account for ASE testing or additional training Growth path into leadership for the right person How to Apply If you are a Diagnostic Automotive Technician or A-Level Mechanic looking for a professional shop where your skill, production, and growth mindset are respected, we would like to speak with you.
