• Power Equipment is seeking an experienced automotive technician for our busy, independently owned repair facility in Skaneateles.

This is primarily an automotive position. Our automotive department maintains a steady workflow of inspections, scheduled maintenance, mechanical repairs and diagnostic work. Experience servicing boats, personal watercraft, lawn equipment, zero-turn mowers or compact tractors is a major plus but is not required. We are willing to cross-train a capable automotive technician who is interested in expanding into these areas. Automotive Responsibilities Perform scheduled maintenance and general automotive repairs Diagnose check-engine lights, drivability concerns and electrical problems Repair brake, steering, suspension, cooling and charging systems Perform New York State inspections if currently certified Use service information, wiring diagrams and diagnostic equipment Accurately identify required parts and labor Document testing, findings and completed repairs Communicate promptly when additional diagnostic time or authorization is required Perform road tests and final quality-control checks Maintain an organized and productive work area Protect customer vehicles and property Additional Experience That Is Valuable Experience in any of the following areas is considered a significant advantage: Outboard and inboard marine engines Sterndrives and marine electrical systems Personal watercraft Boat winterization and seasonal service Zero-turn and commercial lawn mowers Small-engine diagnostics and repair Compact tractors and diesel equipment Hydraulic systems Equipment assembly and pre-delivery inspections Applicants do not need experience in every category. Automotive ability is the priority. Qualifications Professional automotive repair experience Strong mechanical ability Ability to perform common repairs independently Practical diagnostic and electrical troubleshooting skills Ability to read wiring diagrams and use a digital multimeter Ability to use scan tools and repair-information systems Clear repair-order documentation Personal hand tools appropriate for automotive repair Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Dependable attendance and punctuality Willingness to learn and assist in other departments when appropriate A current New York State motor-vehicle inspector certification and ASE certifications are preferred but not mandatory for the right candidate.
