Role Overview We are seeking an Automotive Technician (Diagnostics & Fleet Repair) to help maintain the operational integrity of autonomous vehicle fleets based in San Francisco. This position involves direct engineering support, where you will execute repairs, diagnostics, and routine maintenance to ensure all vehicles meet safety standards and are fully prepared for testing and public demonstration. Ideal candidates will possess a background defined by recent, practical experience in complex diagnostics and mechanical repair. Please note that applicants whose experience is limited to basic maintenance or non-automotive fields will not be considered. Primary Responsibilities Execute comprehensive diagnostics, routine maintenance, and mechanical repairs across the entire fleet. Ensure fleet safety by configuring, setting up, and providing final sign-off for vehicles before they hit the road. Manage the full lifecycle of repairs, from initial diagnostic assessment to final resolution. Collaborate with engineering teams by escalating complex technical challenges as they arise. Create detailed diagnostic test plans to streamline the troubleshooting process. Maintain precise documentation of service history and generate detailed field reports. Optimize shop efficiency by organizing tools, maintaining the workspace, and managing parts inventory. Work in tandem with the Shop Foreman to guarantee the fleet remains mission-ready. Support fleet operations through necessary local travel. Required Qualifications Minimum of 2 to 4 years of recent, hands-on experience as an automotive technician. Proven expertise in advanced diagnostics and repair, moving beyond entry-level service tasks. Proficiency in utilizing diagnostic hardware, electrical systems, and modern troubleshooting techniques. Possession of a valid driver's license and a clean driving history. Must successfully complete a background check, MVR review, and drug screening. Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs and remain on your feet for extended shifts. Strong interpersonal skills to foster effective collaboration within a team setting. Availability to work onsite in San Francisco, CA, for a full-time, 24/7 operation, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Willingness to travel locally and occasionally nationally to support operational needs. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience within high-volume, fleet-based, or engineering-centric environments. Solid understanding of CAN bus architecture, electrical diagnostics, and wiring schematics. Experience operating within specialized automotive testing labs, such as battery or dyno facilities. Completion of a technical trade program or an Associate Degree in automotive technology. Experience with vehicle transport or trailer towing operations. Additional Requirements Current forklift certification or the ability to obtain one promptly. High level of organizational skill, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety protocols. Ability to effectively prioritize multiple repair tasks in a fast-moving environment. Compensation & Benefits Hourly pay rate ranging from $46 to $50.
