Education :
High school diploma or
GED. ASE
School Bus Certification or Medium /Heavy Duty Truck Certification required. Heavy diesel degree or certificate preferred. State school bus inspector certification required within 6 months of hire.
Experience :
Minimum 2 years work experience in bus or medium/light duty truck repair and maintenance. At least 1 year in school bus transportation industry preferred.
Skills :
Valid CDL class B with air brake, passenger, and school endorsements. Knowledge in all aspects of bus and truck repair and maintenance. Able to read, write and communicate in English.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Follows all rules, policies and procedures of Broken Arrow Public Schools, along with regulations pertaining to the Transportation Department. 2. Drives a school bus route based on operational need. 3. Diagnoses and repairs mechanical problems and maintains diesel and gasoline vehicles and equipment. 4. Adjusts timing mechanism, replaces spark plugs, and re-faces valves. 5. Rotates, aligns, and balances wheels. 6. Installs shock absorbers. 7. Repairs and replaces damaged vehicle body parts. 8. Tests electrical systems and makes necessary repairs. 9. Repairs carburetors, ignition systems, and electrical components. 10. Checks and repairs doors and lifts. 11. Removes, replaces, and reassembles transmissions and clutches, fuel, oil, and water pumps, generators, and other parts of the engine and suspension system. 12. Performs general maintenance as needed. 13. Installs rings and bearings, and ensures proper adjustment. 14. Tunes motors using standard testing equipment. 15. Re-faces brakes drums and realigns brakes. 16. Lays out and fabricates parts. 17. Performs duties and responsibilities as requested by the Transportation Director or Fleet Manager. 18. Performs ten (10) hours of continuing education every two (2) years. The above statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this job. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrates considerable knowledge of school bus and vehicles operation and maintenance. Demonstrates considerable knowledge of the operating principles of internal combustion engines. Demonstrates considerable knowledge of the methods of adjusting and repairing the electrical and generating systems of automotive equipment. Skill to perform manual tasks associated with engine maintenance, tire replacement, and vehicle body repair. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to physically perform most repairs. (including, lifting up to 50 pounds, kneeling, bending, stooping, etc.) Demonstrates considerable knowledge and skill in the use and operation of shop tools and machinery. Ability to adapt available tools and repair parts to specific repair problems. Ability to interpret and work from sketches, diagrams, and installation and repair charts. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.

Ability to deal successfully with changes in job assignment and to respond properly to complaints. Able to work cooperatively with all district employees and the public while achieving the objectives of the job.
ATTENDANCE STATEMENT
Able to be in attendance for assigned work schedule with 95% minimum attendance.
