Job Overview Lancaster EMS, a nationally accredited ambulance service providing 9-1-1 and Non-9-1-1 ambulance and transport services in Lancaster County, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Fleet Mechanic to join our dynamic maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a diverse fleet of emergency and transport vehicles and equipment to ensure optimal performance, safety, and reliability. Your expertise will keep our operations running smoothly by performing comprehensive mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on ambulances, emergency vehicles, wheelchair vans, SUVs, trailers, and other equipment. This position offers an exciting opportunity where your work and contributions make a difference. Responsibilities Conduct thorough safety inspections of vehicles and trailers. Perform oil/fluid changes, replace fan belts, air and oil filter changes, wiper blade replacement, replace fan belts, change headlights/lamp/emergency lighting, replace tires and tubes, brake pad and caliper changes, air conditioner check and repair, heating system analysis/repair, suspension repair/replacement, diagnosis and repair of mechanical breakdowns, drive train repairs, engine/transmission overhaul, and electrical system repairs using hand tools and power tools. Utilize schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical systems accurately. Fabricate parts or modifications as needed for equipment repair or enhancement using welding and fabrication techniques. Responsible for the completion of annual Pennsylvania State vehicle safety and emissions inspection on all company vehicles. Maintain detailed service records for all repairs performed; ensure compliance with safety standards and manufacturer specifications. Assist with the design and procurement of new and replacement vehicles. Respond to emergency breakdowns and repair vehicles as necessary. Assists with keeping designated Company parking lots and walkways free of snow and ice during inclement weather. Assists in troubleshooting and completing minor repairs on inoperable on-board equipment that he/she is qualified to perform. Experience Proven experience working as a mechanic with hands-on expertise in automotive diagnostics and vehicle maintenance. Proficiency in the use of basic mechanic hand tools Experience completing PennDOT safety/emissions annual inspections with associated licensure Skilled in using schematics for troubleshooting electrical systems as well as hydraulic and mechanical components. Experience with welding, fabrication, alignment procedures, suspension work, shocks & struts replacement, and HVAC system repairs. Advanced knowledge of gasoline automotive systems, including gasoline engine repair and powertrain systems is essential. Experience with snow removal/snow plowing.
