.is .About us Smith & Waters is seeking an experienced Fleet Trailer Mechanic to join our growing shop team. The Fleet Trailer Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing company trailers, and other fleet equipment to ensure our vehicles remain safe, reliable, and ready for service. The ideal candidate is a dependable, safety-minded mechanic who takes pride in quality workmanship, can troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems, and understands the importance of keeping a commercial fleet operating efficiently. Essential Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled service on company fleet equipment. Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, suspension systems, steering systems, and braking systems. Inspect and repair air brake systems and other commercial vehicle components. Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic systems. Troubleshoot trailer performance issues. Perform routine maintenance. Inspect tires, wheels, lights, brakes, hoses, and other safety-critical components. Perform DOT-related inspections and repairs as required. Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records. Identify potential mechanical problems before they result in vehicle breakdowns. Respond to breakdowns and perform roadside repairs when necessary. Work with the shop manager and operations personnel to prioritize repairs and minimize vehicle downtime. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Properly use and maintain shop tools and diagnostic equipment. Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, DOT regulations, and applicable federal and state requirements. Perform other maintenance and repair duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required:

Previous experience working on commercial fleet equipment. Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills. Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and computer-related problems. Ability to safely operate shop equipment and tools. Valid driver's license. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic. Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Preferred:

CDL Class A license. ASE certifications. Experience working on heavy-duty commercial trucks and trailers. Experience with computerized diagnostic equipment. Experience with air brake systems. Experience with diesel emissions systems, including DPF, DEF, and SCR systems. Experience with welding and fabrication. Experience maintaining a commercial trucking fleet. Physical Requirements The Fleet Trailer Mechanic must be able to: Lift and carry heavy parts and equipment. Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, and work in awkward positions for extended periods. Work safely around heavy trucks, trailers, tools, machinery, and automotive fluids. Occasionally work outdoors and in varying weather conditions. Safely perform emergency or roadside repairs when required. Work Environment This position works primarily in a commercial fleet maintenance shop and may occasionally require work outside or at roadside locations. The mechanic will routinely work around diesel engines, heavy equipment, lubricants, fuels, electrical systems, compressed air, and other automotive shop hazards.
