About the Role Want to build police cars? First Fleet Services is hiring Fleet Upfit Technicians for our City of Arlington upfit program. You'll join a small, dedicated team that turns brand-new vehicles, like a Chevy Tahoe or Ford Police Interceptor, into fully equipped police patrol, K9, and emergency units. Each build is a real project. You'll install lights, sirens, radios, cameras, computers, consoles, partitions, and K9 kennels. When you're done, the vehicle is ready to protect the community. If you like wiring, car audio, remote starts, dash cams, or custom installs, this is the most satisfying work in the shop. What You'll Do Install emergency lighting (light bars, grille and perimeter lights), sirens, and speakers. Install and wire in-car video, radar, radios, antennas, mobile data computers, and docking stations. Mount consoles, prisoner partitions, gun racks, push bumpers, and K9 transport systems. Route, terminate, and loom wiring neatly and safely using the City's upfit standards and diagrams. Test all systems and fix any electrical problems before delivery. Strip and decommission retired emergency vehicles for reuse or surplus. Help with non-police upfits such as work trucks, fire support vehicles, and specialty units. Keep builds on schedule and document work, parts, and hours accurately. Work as a team under the direction of our EVT upfit supervisor. What We're Looking For 12-24 months of experience in automotive repair, car audio/electronics installation, remote start/security, camera systems, or emergency vehicle upfitting. Solid 12-volt electrical skills: reading wiring diagrams, soldering, crimping, and using a multimeter. Careful, detail-oriented workmanship. Clean wiring matters here. Comfortable with hand and power tools, including drilling and mounting in new vehicles. Experience with Whelen, Federal Signal, Code 3, SoundOff, Havis, Setina, or Troy products is a plus. MECP certification or ASE A6 (Electrical/Electronic Systems) is a plus. Team player who likes solving problems and seeing a project through.
