Position Summary The Truck Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of mobile and production equipment that supports Living Earth's mulch, soil, composting, and material-handling operations. This role performs both shop-based and field repairs across multiple sites and plays a key part in minimizing downtime and ensuring safe, reliable operation of all equipment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy trucks, trailers, grinders, loaders, excavators, screens, conveyors, and other mobile or production equipment used in Living Earth operations. Perform preventive maintenance services, safety inspections, and scheduled repairs to reduce downtime and extend equipment life. Troubleshoot and repair electrical, ECM, DEF, hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, brake, steering, suspension, and engine-related systems. Perform shop-based and field repairs across multiple Living Earth locations, including road calls and emergency service work when needed. Fabricate, weld, cut, and modify parts or components as needed to complete repairs safely and efficiently. Read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical bulletins to identify issues and complete repairs correctly. Inspect, assemble, replace, and route hydraulic hoses, fittings, and related components; verify repairs through functional testing. Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, inspection reports, parts usage, and other required documentation in a timely manner. Communicate professionally with operators, managers, vendors, and parts suppliers regarding equipment condition, repair status, and operational needs. Follow all company safety rules, environmental requirements, lockout/tagout procedures, and housekeeping expectations while maintaining a clean and organized work area. Other Duties as

Qualifications Education and Experience 3-5+ years of experience as a heavy equipment or diesel mechanic, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience repairing trucks, mobile equipment, or production equipment in an industrial, construction, mining, recycling, or similar environment is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong experience with electrical, ECM, and DEF systems. Skilled in hydraulic diagnostics, hose assembly, and fitting work. Ability to perform welding and light fabrication. Proficient in reading and using service manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics. Comfortable performing field repairs on large equipment and trucks. Strong problem-solving skills and urgency in minimizing equipment downtime. Ability to communicate professionally with operators, managers, and vendors.

Licenses / Certifications

CDL-A license required for operation of the service truck. Must have own tools suitable for heavy equipment repair. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance and training to equipment operators. Physical Requirements Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, and reach. Frequently required to climb onto and off of large equipment. Must be able to lift and carry 50-75 lbs on a regular basis. Ability to work in dusty, noisy, and outdoor yard environments in all seasons. Work Environment Primarily outdoor yard and shop environment in active mulch, compost, and soil production facilities. Exposure to moving mechanical equipment, heavy truck and equipment traffic, dust, noise, and varying weather conditions. Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) required.
