Day shift with on-call / emergency response support as needed Position Overview Haz Mat Special Services (HMSS) is seeking a Certified Heavy Equipment Mechanic to support our emergency response, industrial services, and wildfire response fleet across the Gulf Coast region. This role is critical to maintaining operational readiness for time-sensitive response work. The ideal candidate has strong diesel and hydraulic experience , is comfortable working across on-road and off-road equipment , and understands the urgency and accountability required in an emergency response environment. Primary Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on a mixed fleet including: Heavy-duty diesel trucks (Kenworth, Freightliner, Peterbilt, Hino) Vacuum trucks, roll-offs, and water trucks Fire apparatus (brush trucks, pumpers, ladder truck) Heavy equipment (CAT dozers, backhoes, excavators; Kubota equipment) Trailers, generators, pumps, and response equipment Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, brakes, and drivetrains Conduct and document DOT annual inspections and ensure FMCSA compliance Support emergency response deployments with rapid troubleshooting and field repairs when required Maintain accurate maintenance records and communicate equipment readiness to operations leadership Coordinate with operations and response teams to prioritize critical assets Required Qualifications ASE Heavy Truck (T-Series) certifications (T2-T6 strongly preferred) Proven experience as a Heavy Equipment or Fleet Mechanic Strong working knowledge of: Diesel engines Hydraulic systems Air brakes Electrical diagnostics (12V / 24V systems) Experience performing DOT inspections and maintaining compliance documentation Valid driver's license (CDL preferred but not required) Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Willingness to support on-call or emergency response needs Preferred / Strongly Desired Caterpillar and/or Kubota OEM experience or certification Fire apparatus or emergency vehicle maintenance experience Vacuum truck or hydrovac system experience Welding and fabrication skills Generator service experience (Multiquip or equivalent) Work Environment Shop-based with occasional field and response-site work Exposure to industrial environments and emergency response conditions PPE provided as required Compensation & Benefits Competitive pay based on experience and certifications Overtime opportunities Company-paid PPE Opportunity to support real-world emergency response operations Stable, growing company with regional response footprint Why
