Structure Mechanic
Job Description:
An aircraft structures mechanic's job description includes inspecting, repairing, and modifying aircraft structures like the fuselage, wings, and flight control surfaces. They perform maintenance, assemble metal and composite components, and work with sealants, insulation, and other materials to ensure the aircraft's structural integrity and safety.
Core duties and responsibilities:
Inspect and diagnose: Conduct pre-flight, post-flight, and other structural inspections to identify damage, wear, and corrosion.
Repair and replace:
Repair or replace damaged components such as sheet metal, ribs, spars, and skin using techniques like riveting and patch repairs. Install components: Install various parts, including insulation, floors, and cargo fittings, using a variety of materials from metal and composite to plastic. Modify structures: Make modifications to aircraft structures following approved data and manufacturer's manuals. Work with sealants: seal chemicals to maintain the integrity of the aircraft.
